The new processor from Intel was one of the most anticipated products by manufacturers of mobile devices, due to its small size and extremely low power consumption.

With the success the new low-cost portable computers are having on the market, such as Asus Eee PC or the Acer Aspire One, we expect good results in sales of this new processor.

This new processor already has a wide range of models that part of 800Mhz up to 1.86Ghz, all equipped with 512kB cache and an FSB which varies between 400 and the 533Mhz. These models are divided into three series that are designed for different types of products, the Z5 series for mobile Internet access (Samsung Q1), N2 for low-cost notebooks and 2 for the mini desktop PCs.

But is this processor really a palatable product or the low price of these new ultra-portable notebooks match with a poor performance?

In terms of pricing the new Intel Atom sets a record, costs only about € 20, however its performance is not surprising, we can even consider that it is a disappointment, since its predecessor Intel Celeron 220 with less frequently can have better performance.

It seems to us that the Atom is just a processor for mobile devices, because its performance is not sufficient for the needs of a office work. It is a product for those who want to perform simple tasks and little processing such as surfing the Internet or write word processing documents.

Despite consuming very little energy is only 3W of AMD Sempron LE which is much higher in performance.
