Alright boys and girls, let's talk about choosing a title for your hub. That's write (hehe) that hub needs a title. An eye catching, attention grabbing, come 'n read me title. What you choose to call your hub is almost as important as what you put into it. A well written, entertaining hub can be just that but without a title that makes readers take a look at it, your hub could go unnoticed and unappreciated. And we wouldn't want that, now would we?

So take a minute to read through some helpful tips and advice and the next time you need a title, maybe it will come a little easier to you.

Make It Pop

When choosing a title for your hub, you want it to meet three requirements.

First, you want it to be relevant.

If I had titled this hub, "I kissed a girl. And I liked it." I can guarantee I would have gotten a lot of people interested enough to check it out. However I would have also been deceptive. It's against HubPages rules to deceive readers with title or tags. Unless I had planned to talk about college experimentation, I had to think of a better title.

Second, you want the title to make sense.

By this, I mean make sure you are using proper grammar and sentence structure. If people can't understand the title, it may be be off putting.

Third, make it catchy.

You want your title to draw the reader in. The title is the first thing a potential reader sees. Especially if they are notified of your hub in an inbox. The title is what may make you or break you in terms of viewers.

How to work it...

Alright, so let's talk a little about putting these tips into practice. The title you pick will be affected by the type of hub you are writing. If your hub is a comedy hub, you are going to want a funny title. If you are writing a how- to hub, you will want your title to be straightforward and informative. If your hub is a general observation or a voiced opinion, you want to reflect that.

Try to think about the things you look for and are drawn to when perusing HubPages for potential hubs to read. Is it a short precise title that grabs you or a funny sarcastic one? The great thing about a hub title is that it can be changed. Even after your hub is published, you can edit your hub to change the title. Your URL may not match the new title, but as long as they are both still relevant to the hub itself, that is just fine.

Take your time when naming your hub, but don't stress over it. Like I said, you can always change it later if you need to. Try writing the hub first and then going back to the title when its finished. That can give you a few more ideas. Also remember that an overly controversial title can draw readers in or turn them away. By writing a controversial hub, you put thoughts and feelings out there that not everyone will agree with and some may voice that opinion. If you're going to do a controversial hub, be prepared for fired up comments. A controversial title will most likely catch the eye and do the trick with most readers. There are some however who will avoid the controversy like the plague, so readership could be high or low.

Overall, a title should state, to some degree, what your hub is about. A reader should get a sense of what they will be reading. Short, long, simple, funny, what you choose to name your hub is up to you. It is hard to say which titles do better. I have heard complaints about boring titles. That sometimes readers get tired of the same old How to do such and such titles and enjoy a break from monatony when they catch a silly title. However, others are only looking for the informative hubs and will bypass silly ones. Some read everything and enjoy both. It really all depends on your personal style.
