International Travel Insurance

A very common question that everyone asks about international travel insurance is “do I really need it”. Deciding whether you need insurance and if yes, which one must you choose can be quite confusing. There are too many options available and it is important to choose the right international travel insurance for yourself. During the course of cruise or tour, you can cut the risk of accident, illness or emergency. When any tragedy happens, there are mainly two financial risks involved-you lose the non-refundable prepayment and you incur huge emergency transportation home. Either of them can cost you thousands of dollars but international travel insurance protects you from both but at the same time it is quite overpriced.

Types Of International Travel Insurance Policies

TCI- Trip-cancellation/trip interruption insurance covers the incurred losses if you had to cancel your trip prior to leaving your home or if you had to cut short your trip. The reimbursement will also be given if your tour operator or cruise line goes out of business. Many tour operators or cruise operators offer cancellation waiver which are quite inexpensive proving the coverage for cancelling the trip. But at the same time, there are many conditions that you must know and they are not state regulated.

EME-Emergency Medical Evacuation policy pays the additional cost of rushing to any medical facility that is far from the site of illness or accident. This insurance will cover you if you were in a remote location had to be airlifted or get you back home if you were in a foreign hospital for too long. There are some commercial airlines that require sick passengers to be travelling on stretcher and must be accompanied by a doctor. This can cost you a fortune as you might have to buy many seats on a plane. But before buying this international travel insurance, check out if there are any kind of limits.

Accidental Death- This international travel insurance provides variety of coverage in case of death during the trip.

Personal effects coverage or Baggage Insurance- This covers the personal belongings in case they are damaged, lost or stolen during the trip. Approximately, if you want to insure personal belongings worth of $1000, you will pay around $50 per year. During your trip, there will be coverage provided by your trip operator and airlines as well. Find out about those coverage prior to buying this one. It is more cost-effective to buy endorsement or floater to your renters or homeowners polity. You might have to pay $ 10-$40 per annum for jewelry worth $1000. Items will be fully insured throughout the world for a year.

When choosing international travel insurance, make sure that you choose a reliable company that offers best international travel insurance at a great price.
