Sometimes we set off in a direction that seems to be the right one - only to find - somewhere down the road - the path isn’t taking us where we want to go. We think back - trying to remember where we might have gone wrong. Yes, we followed the directions, had all the necessary tools and made what we thought were the right decisions, but realize that something is not right.

Many in the Network Marketing business can relate to this unfortunate experience. What starts out to be a path of adventure and promise can, in a short amount of time, turn into complete disappointment - and not because of anything we did wrong. That realization can hit hard when so much time and energy has been invested.

The Path Becomes Difficult

Truth is, we didn’t do anything wrong. The path is still there - it has just become muddy and slippery - making our journey through it much more difficult. Network Marketing still works, but we need to take a different road to get there.

My Gardening Took A Wrong Path

I like to garden, but I am not much of a gardener. I do it just for fun, and don’t always pay attention to the detailed side of what I am planting - like how it should look when it grows. One year, I planted a hill of cucumbers and decided to see if they would be contained in a tomato cage and grow vertically. I was amazed when they started to sprout in record time. Well, I fertilized and tended that plant - all the time wondering why all the flowers were at the bottom.

By this time it had grown to an astounding 7 feet tall. I just figured that I had a really healthy cucumber plant. My husband commented on it one day and asked me if I was sure that was a cucumber - and that it didn’t look like any cucumber plant he had ever seen. On closer inspection, I was dismayed to find that he was right. The ‘trunk’( which it had become by now) wasn’t even connected to any of my cucumber vines. I had tended a weed for nearly 2 months. Not only that, but I had all my neighbors convinced that it was a giant cucumber plant! They were amazed! Well, I got out the loppers and chopped down that giant plant and revealed - underneath, a small, but perfectly healthy cucumber plant - filled with flowers and ready to grow.

It can be difficult - realizing we need to take a different path: all that effort and nothing to show for it. The worst part is, we have usually taken others with us down the same path. Does that mean that everything we thought was right is lost? On the contrary, the building blocks have been there the whole time.
