Internet Network Marketing and Internet Marketing - Alice Meets the Mad Hatter
69SEO Strategies vs Social Site Networking
There seems to be two camps or two schools of thought when it comes to approaching Internet marketing these days - SEO or Search Engine Optimization and Social Networking as on Facebook and MySpace, for example.
SEO people seek to establish a presence on the Internet by ranking high in the Search Engines. This means that when you type in a word or a phrase in Google or Yahoo, they want their site to come up on page one and preferable as high on the page as possible.
Social Networkers on the other hand are not concerned with the search engines, at all. They seek to make contact with large numbers of like-minded people through social sites like Facebook and MySpace etc.... They build a following up by forming groups or collecting friends and begin marketing their products, services and information to a relatively interested collection of people.
My experience with these two camps has been educational, fascinating, exhilarating and time consuming. Determined to create an online business to replace my offline business of network marketing or MLM (Multi-Level Marketing), I was overjoyed to be introduced to Ann Sieg and her wonderful teachings on Internet marketing strategies. See my vivacious video - The Dallas Divas & Their Lies!! The Truth About MLM Online! - describing this.
Ann is in the SEO camp. The main goal, she says, is to "brand" ourselves as unique on the Internet with something of value to share with you, our customer/client. We brand ourselves to rank high in the search engines to be the first person you see when you go searching for help with your business -particularly when it comes to getting that business operating online. She is brilliant and right on target with her marketing ideas. See my other hub page - Frustrated with Network Marketing? Ann Sieg Changed My Life.
When I went to implement Ann's marketing ideas, however, I fell down a black hole much like Alice did when she followed the rabbit in the fabled tales of Alice in Wonderland. See my blog page entitled InterNetwork Marketing 101 - Alice Down the Rabbit Hole. I got terribly lost and confused and quite overwhelmed. It's easy to do out here in the wide open World Wide Web! So many choices, so many directions!
Well, I found help in the form of The Renegade University. Mike Klingler is another in the SEO camp. His Internet Marketing training is a quite thorough and painstaking hand-holding approach, I achieved that much sought after first page ranking on the search engines quite a few times for my various articles and videos from his training.
Now about the other camp. The social sites. I met a really great teacher there, as well, by the name of Brian Campbell. Brian burst upon the Facebook scene with the outrageous claim that he would make $10K in 37 days by networking on that site. See my other video : The Dallas Divas - "YeeeHawww, Brian Campbell" In fact, he made over $27K in less than a month and is still going! I got so caught up in his whirlwind escapade that I truly felt like Alice meeting the Mad Hatter.
Brian's aim is not Internet Network marketing - it is purely Internet Marketing. His goal is to teach students to follow his example and sell their expertise in ever increasing dollar amounts for ever increasing value to ever increasing numbers of loyal followers - ultimately culminating in being considered a consultant to them for life.
He develops rapport and connections and gives away so much incredible training that it's hard to imagine what's left to pay for. This training encompasses everything from targeting your marketing niche to how to conduct a successful teleseminar. All well and good and extremely helpful information. But, how to put that Internet Marketing training into Internet Network Marketing (or InterNetwork Marketing as we call it)?
I was at a crossroads. Only so much time in the day - only so many days to a week and only so much energy even for this little EverReady Bunny! I couldn't follow Brian at his breakneck speed hopping from making 500 friends on Facebook to creating groups with 1000 members to conducting free teleseminars to hopping over to MySpace to do it all over again AND build my content up on the Internet and create that presence for the Search Engines to find me.
And the dilemma was, did I need to??? Brian was demonstrating that there is "gold in them thar hills" of social networking sites. He says it is a phenomena just waiting to be tapped into and THAT is where the Internet is going and the wave is RIGHT NOW.
Of course, my SEO friends and camp followers say "who is Brian Campbell, anyways?" "Where is he on the search engines??" He's NOT - therefore zero credibility in their eyes. But all you have to do is watch one of his marketing webinars and you know he is the real deal. And you have to have the understanding that he is not the least bit concerned with SEO standings when he's pulling down 27Grand in less than 30 days and will make over a $100 thousand dollars in just a few months networking on the Social Sites.
Here's what I've discovered through all this "TEA PARTYING" with the likes of Mad Hatters like Brian and a few others...... Somehow, somewhere, all this marketing training and preparation will come together. And, I'll be able to create numerous streams of income through both "Internet Network Marketing" of my MLM and "Internet Marketing" of my experience and expertise on CD's and MP3's.
I've discovered that the universe is bountiful and the Internet is my portal into infinite possibilities. All kinds of opportunities await. I have to get prepared - mentally and emotionally and financially. I am poised for possibilities and I hope the reader of this hub feels the pull and thrill of discoveries awaiting you, too.

Lisa, this is one of the most heartfelt and comprehensive Hubs I've read so far...and I have the same concerns, and then some! Throw in Jack Humphrey (master of the blogomarket), Mike Filsaime (affiliate sales, etc.), Ken Evoy (SBI), plus all the social sites, Facebook groups, forums, etc. and I'm about ready to throw in the towel!! The thing is, I INVITED all these people into my life, and only I can decide who gets the axe and who stays...tough choices when they all 'seem' like such nice people.
Brilliant!

Well, I have been journeying with Mike Klingler for 5 years now. My knowledge base of marketing has grown exponentially as we moved together through the old model of network marketing. As Mike and Didi discovered attraction marketing, Ann Seig last spring and summer, I focused. Yes Lisa, I recognized all the names, thankfully I didn't go down too many rabbit trails or holes, but had my distractions too. We can be very greatful that Renegade University keeps blazing a well marked trail.Your hub is excellent for a number of reasons. Thanks. Pat
Excellent Hub Lisa, I can relate to your concern I've fell into so many rabbit holes and been down so many trails that I can't even count them anymore. I'm sure thankful that I found Mike Klingler and Renegade University.
Thanks Lisa -- I've been curious about Brian so your take on the differences between his teachings and Renegade University. Since we can't do it all, I'm so glad we have each other to share information with. Mike Klingler and his university have made the difference for me. I don't know what I would have done without him.
Hi Lisa,
Sometimes it really does feel like we're in a foreign world, with strange and wonderful characters there to guide us along the way. Your Alice in Wonderland analogy is very appropriate.
I'm not sure Brian wants to be thought of as a Mad Hatter, but perhaps it suits him. Either way, your article has motivated me to learn a little bit more about him.
Keep up the good work. I look forward to your next submission.

Lisa:
Wow! "Go ask Alice, when she's ten feet tall." Excellent discussion of all forms of Internet marketing. I've been in the black hole and all these discussions help clarify the big picture. Thanks.
Lisa,M
My sentements exactly. However as one of your commenators says we asked all of the people to come into our lives. Now the sorting process begins. Thank goodness we do have each other to share.Excellent article.

"So many choices, so many directions" Truly.
I too am poised for possibilities. And I agree with coachjoci - what a blessing we can learn from each other.
And be encouraged to have open hearts as well as minds.
Thanks for your article.
I know of a couple people who I've met on Facebook who are applying Brian Campbell's strategies and doing well. I know of a few who are applying Marketing Merge Renegade University teachings and beginning to do well. I think it's all preference, then building momentum. Like a boulder, it can be hard to get started; like a boulder, it will be hard to slow down. Great article.

Thanks for the excellent explanation Lisa! There is just way too much information for us to decipher on our own!
