Internet Marketing Manager – A Position Most Companies Aren’t Aware They Need… Yet

For the past 2 years I have struggled to find a position in a corporate environment that would allow me to put my web development, graphic, and internet marketing skills to good use.

Mainly this is because many companies haven’t been fully aware of the need to have not only a highly optimized website, but only a strong presence in the search engine to grab the free traffic that they produce everyday.

Recently, I’ve found a few positions that show promise. These are a few smart companies that are realizing that a person with Technical and Marketing experience is required to properly grow your business in this internet age.

This page is dedicated to show 2 things:
1) How much I love doing Internet Marketing and eCommerce
2) How I would be a true benefit to the growth of your organization

The Responsibilities of an Internet Marketing Manager

Design: It’s very important for us to have some experience with graphic design. We don’t have to be university trained graphic artist, but it’s very important for us to be able to convey what design would convert web visitors better. Sometimes a web page or banner ad could look aesthetically great, but won’t interest web visitors in taking the action we are marketing.

Analytics: Test, test, and then test again. It’s very important for us to know how to gather analytical data and be able to “See” what’s happen within the numbers. Kinda like the operator reading the code on screen in the movie “The Matrix”. Analytics tells us what is working and what isn’t. Once we know the true story of how the site, ad, or sales copy is performing, we must be able to know what to change to make improvements.

SEO: Search engine optimization is a phrase that is being tossed around more frequently now. There are very important factors that we must hone in on concerning on-page SEO. These can be meta tags, page titles, description, images, and even keyword density. More importantly, we must be able to build back links to increase our rankings in the search engines.

PPC: In my opinion, if you don’t have a daily budget in the $100s or $1000s then you need to stick to long tail keywords when doing PPC bidding. It’s very important to first research what keywords your market is using before bidding, just bundling a bunch of keywords from the Google keyword tool is as prudent as it used to be.

Creative: I believe Internet Marketing Managers need to have a creative streak within them to help differentiate the organization they work for from competitors. Video editing, flash video creation, and graphic design skills are a plus.

Web Programming: An Internet Marketing Manager should be very comfortable with developing and maintaining web applications. Often businesses will need to be able to capture email leads, send PPC visitors to squeeze pages, or modify existing pages to increase conversion rates. It’s a must have for a successful IM Manager.

Presentation Skills: Being able to broadcast site performance, optimization recommendations, online strategic plans, and proposals for new online revenue structures to the senior staff of an organization must be a comfortable environment for us. The decisions for the organization are made at the Board of Directors or even the VP level, so it’s important they have a clear picture of what our vision is for an online presence.

How Jared Jacobs (myself) Sizes Up to the Role of an Internet Marketing Manager

Design: Over the past 5 years, I’ve done everything from logo design for small businesses to designing an intranet site for a fortune 10 company. Examples: link here

Analytics: For the past year and a half I have served as the Web Analyst of a $1.4 Billion Credit Union in Texas. I have used Google Analytics to track every aspect of the website during that time. I have a deep understanding of why analytics are important and why everyone involved with decision making around the website should be aware of those statistics regularly.

SEO: I have put together a strategy to help businesses dominate the search engines for multiple keywords in their market. Instead of spending all of my time trying to get 1 website ranked, I use the power of Web 2.0 properties to take up 50% - 70% of the 1st page of Google/Yahoo/Bing for targeted keywords. Showing is better than telling, examples: list here, list here, and here.

PPC: I have found that using PPC to target specific areas with long tailed keywords keeps cost low and conversions high. I’m personally tired of seeing outsourced Ad Agencies blow $100,000 a year for bidding on keywords like “bank” or “online banking”. Yeah you will get a lot of traffic that way but you won’t have an arm/leg (in a figurative financial way), and you won’t convert most of those general visitors.

Creative: This is an area that I have a lot of passion for but haven’t gotten a chance to express it consistently. I’ve done some flash development and I’m not starting to hone in on developing my video editing skills as it pertains to promoting other businesses. Examples: link here, link here, link here.

Web Programming: I have a background in Computer Science and have worked as a programmer in the Aerospace industry for 3 years, and have done some web development at the Credit Union where I’m currently employed.

Presentation Skills: I’m very comfortable with presenting in front of people. I haven’t been through ToastMasters of anything like that, but repetition has taught me to feel comfortable with giving presentations. I’ve given presentations at corporate banquets, in front of a CEO, Board of Director member, VP staff, and even at Church.

Benaiah Malachi Jacobs

A little About Myself as A Person

I’m now a 25 years old new Dad living in Austin, Tx. I have been married to my wife Monique for 3 years now, but we have dated non stop since the 1st day of our Senior year in high school (8 years now).

We had our son Benaiah, pronounced Ben-nay-ah, is now 3 months old and he is a big-un. I hear he looks like me but I’m not sure yet, what do you think?

I love basketball! Playing basketball, playing basketball games, and watching NBA games is what I like to do. I used to play football in high school, but for some reason after I stopped playing, I lost the enthusiasm about it.

Never liked baseball, but if my son decides to play I’ll think about it.

I’m big into the Bible and biblical history.
