Have you ever day dreamed about owning a hammer? No?

Neither have I.

But when life’s pressures got me down one day I bought a painting – a serene country scene that gave me something to dream about.

I sure wanted a hammer then. I needed it to do a job for me that I couldn’t do without it.

I needed that hammer to help me get my dream up on the wall.

Have you ever dreamed about owning a wheelbarrow? No? Well, one of our daughter’s did.

And she, a med student at the time, got her dream – a brand spanking new red wheelbarrow with a big shiny wheel. Strange birthday gift for a doctor in the making!

Did she really want a wheelbarrow? Did she really care if it was brand new, dazzling red and had big shiny wheels?

No!

She just wanted life to be a bit easier. To have something to cart her winter wood in, so she could curl up by a warm fire, toasting herself while studying on those freezing evenings in the far south of New Zealand.

We never really want the gadget or the tool at all!

Not really!

We just want something that’ll get the job done.

We bought a video camera recently. I haven’t needed a video camera, but I have needed a way to be able to look people in the eye (their e-eye!) and say what I’d like to say in a way that speaks to people I don’t know all over the world.
