Internet Safety, Children, and Porn. A Real Solution

How Can You Protect Your Children From Seeing Internet Porn?
Let me first start by saying that there is no replacement for your involvement in your childrens use of the computer, particularly the internet. That is the first way that you can have "internet safety" in the home. I have 4 boys currently, and they already love to play games on the computer. I worry about the ever increasing chance that they will see inappropriate things on the internet against their will. I wish I could say that I was there withv them the whole time, but I am not. We all know that it is not real to think that we can be there standing over our childrens shoulder and watching their every click. We have also all been victims of unwanted solicitations via pop ups, pop unders, spam email, etc that contain pornography. We as adults have the sense about us to make some choices quickly to remove these things (often pulling the cord, or pushing the button on the computer losing data that was not saved). However, our children do not. Not only that, pornography is something that their brains cannot process in a healthy manner. Their natural development can be permanently altered. In addition to our young children being exposed to pornography at an early age, they also are exposed to computers, internets and filters at an early age. This helps render many filters useless as they can easily break through them from knowledge gained on their own, through friends, or a simple search of the internet. If you want a quick lesson on how easy it is for them to get through and how hard it is for you to block, go and search "bypassing internet filters". When you do that you will see all kinds of information and discussions on the topic. The problem: Your kids understand the gibberish and most parents who were not raised in a computer era, do not.
The Real Solution
Here is something that most parents of today can understand. When you hook up with the local cable company or satellite tv, you choose which kind of channels you want or do not want. You can choose to not get the adult channels, the pay-per-view channels, the movie channels, etc. Those channels never even make it to your home. The cable or satellite tv companies block them at their location. The same could be done at the internet service providers location. Right now we get almost all internet websites through 1 "channel" (called a port in the computer world). Why not demand more channels so that we can choose which kind of content we want in our home and increase the internet safety in our home for our children and us. Please watch the video above and then take some action by getting involved in cp80. This is a company that exist because of one mans passion to make the internet safer for our children by propossing a bill that would give us a choice that we currently do not have if we wish to have the internet in our home. I encourage you to visit this site and see what you can do, because currently the politicians in great majority don't want to make a lot of comment on this proposal. Why? That is what we need to ask them.
You may also see more trailers and get the full video traffic control - the peoples war on internet porn describing the extent of this issue. The movie has interviews with ex-porn stars who describe the realities of the porn industry, interviews with current pornographers who don't see anything wrong and think this is not their responsibility, and interviews with kids on the streets who talk openly about what is reality in regards to their peers exposure to pornography. This is a powerful movie and will likely light a fire under you like it has me to battle for internet safety for our children when it comes to pornography. They deserve our success in this area.

Please visit www.cp80.org to find how you can help in this cause. They have a lot of info on how to push this and if it already is being pushed in your state.
We need lots of voices shouting to the government on this issue to get there attention. Another approach to help on this is to make friends, family, neighbors, schools, etc aware of this hub or more importantly www.cp80.org. The movie "traffic control - the peoples war on internet porn" is a great movie to get the blood pumping and people desiring to make changes. That is a trailer of the movie that you see in this hub. It can be found at www.traficcontrolthemovie.com
Thanks for the comment and desire to help in this war.

It is so sad that today's youth is getting exposed to this kind of filth to such a high level. keep up the good work.
Lemiah,
Thank you for the comment. It is a sad state to be in to have are children exposed to this, particularly because all of the bad that comes from it just perpetuates further and further down the line and into more homes of each generation.
hmm, I don't agree with everything you've said, but interesting hub nonetheless.

I had the same idea to make the internet porn like the cable and was wondering how to get it out there so I was relieved to find that it already was. Yeah! I am in full support! Let me know how to help!
