Internet Scams Will Always Be

Internet scams will exist as long as the Internet lives on ... it's just one more piece of reality to deal with. Some people have scruples, others don't. And, those others don't give a rat's tutu how they get what they want, as long as they can sing the ole Glenn Frey tune, "I've Got Mine".

Until the FCC or FTC catches up with the unscrupulous, borderline homo-sapiens (which will be never or almost never), you just have to ignore them or plaster them all over the 'Net and hope others will not bite on their lies and false promises.

You have to be a wee bit savvy on the 'Net, and one tool to use is: http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/index.jsp. This URL is from Network Solutions, a.k.a, InterNIC. However, since the Domain Name biz has been deregulated, you may run into private proxies, etc., and never figure out who really owns the Domain Name.

In my opinion, tracking down the scammer depends on how frustrated and miffed you are over the issue. After 4 to 6 hours of trying to figure out who the person is who did this scam thing to you, you may be better off to take a few beers, put on the wireless headphones and listen to the real and original Bolero by Maurice Ravel from 1939 (theme song from Moulin Rouge with Nicole Kidman) ... you'll feel refreshed and may even go shopping for castanets.
