Internet Search Engine Optimization and Adsense Strategies

Today, Internet search engine optimization strategies are more widespread than ever. The global economic downturn has forced many of us to come up with a secondary source of income that will supplement or replace our primary income. Learning about and implementing internet search engine optimization strategies can be very profitable.

Several years ago a few individuals from Australia began a training venture called The ThirtyDayChallenge. It was offered in an easy to understand fashion using videos and at no cost to us. It was introduced in a competition format whereby anyone who was able to make their first $1 online was a winner. What the teachers didn't play up was the fact that these lessons could also be used to increase Google Adsense earnings over the long run.

What I have learned here at hubpages is that many people will write articles (known as hubs) without really thinking much about developing an internet search engine optimization strategy. A great deal of people might just enjoy writing as a hobby, but what I've also found is that most of them would really like to earn an income with it as well, If only they had an idea as to how it's done. You can not really develop a hub and earn an income without putting any thought into the process. That system just does not work. Whether you are looking to market a product, recruit members into your business or develop a Google Adsense income you need a plan.

The first step in the plan is market research. The Thirtydaychallenge teachers brought along an incredible tool called Market Samurai, that gave us the ability to find keywords within a niche, that generated more traffic while being less competitive. In 2008 the keyword research tool within MarketSamurai was available Free to people who registered for the Thirtydaychallenge (also Free). The ThirtyDayChallenge for 2009 will probably also provide this service.

Unfortunately, it is very difficult to predict what the market will value as a successful niche. You need to do your homework. I have usually chosen topics in which I've developed an interest or an expertise in, throughout the years. This is definitely not a requirement, nor is it suggested. I've used these criteria simply to make the process a bit more interesting to myself. The disadvantage of using this method is the possibility that your niche will not be too profitable. This happened to me with the "Classic Rock and Roll" niche. I was able to find some great keywords within the niche that elevated my hubs to a high level in the Google rankings. However, the Adsense value was not that incredible, due to the fact that "Classic Rock and Roll" is just not that marketable a niche. (Today, Market Samurai will help you choose keywords that will have a greater value in Google Adsense) On the other hand, I was more successful with the "Cat Problem" niche. The keywords I found, not only elevated the articles high in the Google rankings, but also provided a greater value in Adsense. I will expand upon this in the next paragraph.

Two very important criteria when selecting your niche are the "Evergreen" theory and "Answer a want or need". "Evergreen" refers to a topic that will be applicable 365 days a year, forever. Topics within politics, entertainment or world news do not have that characteristic. They are here today and gone tomorrow. When I wrote about "Cat Eye Problems" ( a sub-niche within "Cat Problems") I knew that this would be a hub that would always be current to a certain segment of the popuiation.(cat owners) "Cat Eye Problems" also provided for a want or need. It solved a problem and answered some of the readers questions. I also believe that economic concerns today have made these hubs more valuable by providing a service to cat owners who can not afford to bring their cats to the vet at every whim. The "Classic Rock" niche was "Evergreen" but did not provide for a want or need.

Once the Market Research part of the plan is complete, you will need to generate traffic to your hub. I will touch very briefly upon this concept here and write more about it in an upcoming hub.

When you generate traffic, you always want to play by the rules. Putting together a website that is strictly done to generate Adsense earnings and provides no real content is the quickest way to get banned from Google. I have always chosen to write about something that could be useful to people, while at the same time strictly adheres to Google's Adsense policies. There is a saying that "Content is King". If you carefully choose your content to provide for a want or need and it is original, and you don't force anyone to read a page filled solely with Adsense ads, you will always be providing a value to the Google arena, and Google will look at you as an authority. That is the way you win in the long run, not with pages filled with Adsense ads.

The Internet search engine optimization strategies that generate the most traffic and I use every time are:

1 - Socially Bookmark the Website or blog(Hub) that you have written. You can accomplish this by creating a bookmark to your blog within a specific social bookmarking website. You should always make sure to register at the site after you have read the rules and regulations. If you break any of these rules the owner of the site can have you permanantly removed and banned from ever posting again. A short list of very good sites for this purpose are Digg, Propeller, Delicious, Twitter, Facebook, Technorati and Stumbleupon. (also: See - www.socialmarker.com)

2 - Create valuable backlinks by writing supporting articles and blogs on other social media sites like Squidoo, Blogger and Ezinarticles. A link to your original blog or hub within these additional blogs will strengthen the keyword presence and page rank of your original article.

3 - Sign up for forums or websites that accept comments about your topic. Squidoo and Yahoo Answers are very good places to do this. Post a comment, which answers a question or expands upon an idea about your topic. Leave a link (if allowed) to your website, blog or hub, and socially bookmark it to sites listed in 1.

4 - Always add content or a new post (ex: text, video, RSS, news items) to your website, blog or hub and make sure that you ping it. This will notify various services that your content has been updated. (pingoat is a good place to do this)

These are just a few of the Internet search engine optimization strategies that will increase your page rank over time and elevate your authority level within Google. In the two years that I have written content, my Adsense earnings have increased fairly significantly using these methods.

You have laid out some good suggestions for getting you sites moving up the SEO ladder. It seems Google likes a nice progressive build up, not a bombardment of links all at once.

rb11,

Thank you for your comments. I agree with you that Google does not like a bombardment of links all at once. There are many cases of people building sites exclusively for the use of adsense ads. There is no meaningful content. The user built the site using a high traffic search term and tricked the visitor into viewing and clicking on ads. This is what is known as "black hat". This will get you banned from using Google Adsense in a heartbeat.

On the other hand, If you build a site that is well thought out, answers a want or need and contains valuable content, Google will love you. This doesn't necessarily mean a slow progressive build up. As an example: You can put together articles in Hubpages, Ezinarticles and Blogger that contain valuable content that link to one another. You can then answer some "Yahoo Answers" questions pertaining to the "umbrella phrase" or keyword you are writing about. You can also comment at Forums that talk about you "umbrella phrase". This will increase your authority level at Google, and you will eventually have better Adsense value at those blogs, for those keywords.
