Keep the faith
At least 20 million Americans have used the Internet to get religious and spiritual information, and have benefited from the communication power of the Web.
In a recent survey in the United States by the Pew Internet Project on
how the Internet affects the religious life for 91 percent of
respondents answered that email has helped members of religious
congregations to remain in contact with each other . In addition to
organizing a wide variety of activities for the congregation, many
believe has helped these communities to become more attractive.
The postal and electronic mail are used to recruit new adherents.
Also use the Web to provide material to communicate with geographically
distant members.
The survey shows that Internet is being used by congregations to
increase the faith and spiritual growth of its members, evangelize, and
organize special missions between communities and around the world. Eg
evangelism campaigns that have been made in the gay community, of
helping people homeless.
There are some sites that provide religious activities online,
such as interpretations of the Bible, games and graphics that are used
to attract adolescents and children.
There are some preachers and community members who use the sites
to provide classes and courses in theology. Others keep the community
informed about the work being conducted by missionary groups.
Most prefer to use the Internet to have a presence in the
community and explain their beliefs. Used as a channel of communication
for the sermons and the basic information, rather than as a two-way
channel for interactive discussions or spiritual prayers on line.
Services offered at the sites of churches and synagogues are often
pictorial histories, maps and directions, schedule of meetings and the
core activities of the congregation.
There are many new members who come after know the websites and see the thoughts and knowledge of the pastor or rabbi.
These sites offer free email addresses. Other services offered by
religious response to queries. Many have questions about the site for
prayers and sermons. There are also content to help the daily prayers
and study the issues of sacred texts. It also provides lists of
marriages, baptisms, etc..
Different religions are increasingly interested in the Web, to
find that it is a place where you can bring new believers and have a
fluid and permanent contact with members of congregations, and
especially a way to arrive at youth.
