65Become An Internet Success Story
By Lana Taylor Figgs
Some of the most well known websites and search engines are now Internet success stories which were started by ordinary people brave enough to take a risk. You too can successfully launch and operate an Internet business if you have the right tools and resources. Since the economy has taken a nosedive into recession and you may be one of thousands of Americans now unemployed, there’s no better time than today to start.
Everyone knows what You Tube is but, do you know its history? Three ordinary young men – Jawed Karim, Steve Chen, and Chad Hurley - decide to take a risk with new technology. Uploading videos and web casts onto the Internet was all the rage, so in February of 2005 they launched You Tube. It would be two months before the first video was uploaded. Soon after, the guys developed ways for the videos to be more widely viewed and things took off from there. Less than two years later, Google purchased You Tube for $1.65 Billion in stock.
In September 2003, Jason Calacanis and Brian Alvey started Weblogs, Inc. At the time, blogs were a new concept, not yet even given the nickname ‘blogs’. However, they quickly became an Internet revolution. By October of 2005, Weblogs, Inc. was bought by AOL for $25 million, making Jason and Brian quite an Internet success story.
The mother load of all Internet success stories is most certainly that of the search engine Google. On September 7, 1998 two StanfordUniversity graduates, Sergey Brin and Larry Page, launched a new publisher of and broker for Internet content and advertisements with the peculiar name of Google. This odd title is now a common term used worldwide in place of the word ‘search’, prevailing over even Microsoft and Yahoo. Google is known to produce a net profit of $1.25 billion in just one quarter. Two of their biggest revenue-generating secrets are AdWords and AdSense. AdWords are advertisements relevant to a Googled search and AdSense is a program of revenue-sharing.
At the start of 2008, Google had nearly 17,000 employees. The company celebrated ten years of being an Internet success story in the fall of 2008. Their highest goal is to universally organize information of the world and make it available to everyone.
With the proper tools, guidelines, and resources, you can also experience being an Internet success story, but each success has key secrets that you must follow. First and foremost, you must be willing to take a risk and get started. Absolutely nothing will happen unless you first make an effort. Then you need to have a main focus, such as only selling only herbal supplements and vitamins. Stay focused and inspired for the long haul. Consider this business venture a journey with an undetermined destination as you watch your own Internet success story unfold.
