The state of Internet marketing right now
Since the "big dot com bubble" burst in the latter half of the 1990's, an entirely new wave of Internet marketing has surfaced and quickly grown stronger.
As the visionaries that hyped up the market for the big crash, envisioned how we would do absolutely everything online - from shopping our groceries to buying a new car - it is not difficult to see how and why it all went astray. They pressured companies and investors into believing that they had to be online now, or else they would be out of business the day after tomorrow. So people went ahead and invested ridiculous amounts of money in getting an online presence - without having a clue what the then online users actually where interested in doing online. In a highly community driven place like the Internet, this was a cardinal mistake - on that many investors paid a high price for.The small entrepreneur takes over
Today's Internet marketing still has it's fair share of gurus, that's for sure. However, the tide has now turned and the mantra now being preached is that everyone, no matter how small, can make themselves an impressive fortune online these days.It is all about niche, or even micro-niche marketing. Small, often one man (or woman), operations that make good money by selling either their own product or promoting other people's and companies' products as affiliates. These marketers are way smarter than the crazy megalomaniacs of the 90's. Today's Internet marketers understand the unique social environment that is the Internet - how to create buzz around their products and how to literally make a killing virtually without spending any money on advertising. The other side of the coin
On the other hand, the Internet marketing scene of today have rightfully been likened to a gold rush - and true enough some of the people that makes the most money, are indeed selling various tools to other Internet marketers. We are often lead to believe that by buying certain information products and software tools, the vast riches of the Internet are ripe for the picking without virtually any effort at all. This of course, is complete nonsense. While it is true that, once you get a certain momentum going, a well oiled Internet marketing machine will seem to be moving almost by itself. But to get the ball rolling in the first place certainly requires a rather hefty investment of time and also involves constantly learning about the quickly evolving Internet. That is exactly what this hub is all about: making Internet marketing truly accessible to anyone - without the hype and focusing on the things that really work.PrintShare it! — Rate it: up down flag this hub

Very accurate. I'm in one of the niches you speak of and it's very difficult to get the ball rolling. However, while you quickly slammed some of the small business tools that make false-promises (i agree here), I think there is huge potential for 3rd party tools. Why do you think small business help and marketing tools are so hard to come by? I've yet to see something that can help me better handle YSM and Adwords. Anyway, good HUB, thanks.

Good point, most would-be marketers spin their wheels spamming with Articles or thin affiliate site. Few every actually get it right.
