The drive is especially useful for download enthusiasts and those who always like to keep their data at their fingertips. This article briefly glances through some of the features of the product mentioned.
The technical specifications of the product are as listed below. The width, depth and height of the unit are 7.8 in, 4.8 in and 1.2 in. The spindle speed of the unit is 7200 rpm and this brings forth a speedier drive with good response. The drive also comes pre-formatted with average latency of 4.17 ms being noted in many tests. It is also hot swappable and hence can be installed or removed while working with it, and will not cause the unit to fail. The unit is also light weight with just 2.2 lbs.
Dark silver is the color of the enclosure. United States is chosen as the default localization country. The form factor of the device is 3.5 inches and the capacity of it is 500 GB again as stated in the title. The buffer size of the product is 8 MB and the default connectivity option is high speed USB 2.0. According to the various tests conducted by independent testers, the product features a transfer rate of 480 mbps. There is no secondary storage controller associated with the device. There is only one USB 2.0 connectivity slot with no scope for compatible bays and slots. Some of the misc features of the product include a vertical stand for keeping the unit vertically upright. One USB cable is also provided in the package for connecting the unit with a PC.
The device is purely plug-and-play and does not require any additional setup from the user side. The adapter included with the device is said to be Energy Star rated. File backup can be done using the EMC Retrospect HD license which is included along with the product and it requires an internet connection for the software to be downloaded. The unit also features a one year limited warranty for the parts and the labor. One the downside the device is only compatible with Windows 2000, XP Pro, XP Home, Vista and MAC OS X 10.3-1.05. Definitely the way to go to protect your computer files, I tried storing to a remote free web server for a while but it took so long to upload and download files I gave up with it. Using an external hard drive is so much simpler and they nearly always come with software to automate the process for you.
