Yesterday I had a very annoying problem with my Iphone 3G. Suddenly when trying to get it out of it's standby mode it shortly lighted up and froze. Just plain dead. I couldn't get it to respond anymore.

I regard the Iphone as the best mobile phone I have ever had. With all the different applications you can download from the appstore it's getting even better and better. Sound quality is also better than I ever wished. The only bad point is the battery life. But this is about the same with all other phones as well, when you are using push email on the phone.

But despite beeing good, a frozen iphone is not good. If you have to rely on your phone, for example when using it for business, this can be a real issue. You have to be sure that the phone works all the time. It is not allowed to freeze.

When my phone froze, I was afraid that the iphone was really dead. That it wouldn't work anymore and I would have to get a replacement, which of course would take several days... I was very happy when I found out how to solve the problem with the frozen iphone. Nonetheless this is unacceptable and should not have to happen.

I tried to press all buttons and all combinations of them, but nothing helped. When I came home I connected it to the electricity net, but that also didn't help. No reaction. Completely frozen.

Finally I connected it to my computer and realized it did get a connection to Itunes. That's good, but doesn't really solve the problem of the frozen iphone. Still the display was black.

If you get the same problem, here is what helps:

1. Connect the Iphone to your computer. Make a backup of everything on the Iphone.
2. Press Power and the "square"-button at the same time. Hold them pressed more than 4 seconds.
3. While still pressing the square-button, let the power-button go. Hold it for at least 10 seconds (I had to hold it longer)
4. Itunes comes up and connects to your Iphone.
5. Make a restore. Be sure you make it as fast as possible, otherwise the Iphone is going to lock up again.

ITunes will take you through the procedure of restoring. You will get all your contacts, sms, emails, programs and more reinstalled.

I found it very annoying... if it happens when you are a long way from your computer, you have no telephone! I hope Apple will solve this problem as soon as possible.
