Iranian Unrest
51Does it really matter?
So there is trouble in the streets of Iran, what a surprise. It all began when an election was held and the current President Ahmadinejad declared himself the victor while a large percentage of the country was sure he would be upset by Mousavi.
To sort through this mess we would have to start at the beginning of problems or unrest in Iran but to do this we would have to go back about 2000 years so for the sake of this hub let’s stick to what is going on today. The problem today revolves around three people and millions of others that are tired of being beaten down, particularly the women of Iran. That’s right, this unrest since the debouched election is about women. Women make up more than 50% of the population. On an average they are better educated than the men are and the entire world knows how they have been treated for centuries. More and more they have seen or heard of the freedoms of the west and they simply have had enough so they are making themselves heard. Even in Iran the women have an influence over what men do, this is a world wide power that nobody yet has been able to explain but we all know what I mean. This western influence by the way is the extent of American influence that is being blamed for the civil disobedience by the Ayatollah.
This brings me to the three main characters in this latest situation; Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Ahmadinejad, and Mousavi. Now the latest news is due to the rumors that there was some voting fraud going on the Ayatollah is going to look into it. Apparently it seems that there were more votes than there were registered voters; sound familiar? I wasn’t aware that Acorn had offices in Iran. Never the less, the main question here is does it really matter? We all know Ahmadinejad is a nut but we have come to expect this from places like Iran but if we look at the whole picture and the entire past of both nominees are there really that big of a difference? Mousavi isn’t necessarily the poster child for Democracy either; his past is somewhat checkered as well. When all is said and done about the only difference between the two candidates is compassion. Mousavi is more likely to give you a choice in which hand you would rather have cut off. Furthermore, I say it doesn’t matter because the power in the country still lies with the clerics, specifically Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
This is nothing new.
Is it our problem?
We hear now that they are chanting “Death to America” in the streets but these are only the few that believe this trouble is being caused by us and this is nothing new, they have been chanting death to America in the streets of Iran since there has been an America. Of course this has escalated since our involvement in the Iranian Iraqi war. Does anyone recall the hostage situation that abruptly ended when Reagan was inaugurated? We backed Iraq in this war because we hated Iran a little bit more than we hated Iraq so by pouring money and arms into Iraq we saved them from being destroyed by Iran and also helped them build a defense system we would be challenged by ten years later, Desert Storm.
Now I don’t want to get off on a rant here about American politics, government, or policy; I’ll save the majority of that for a different posting. However, when the question arises, and it already has daily, as to what our involvement should be in Iran at this point the answer is simple; there shouldn’t be any. Our main concern still has to be to stay focused on stopping a nuclear Iran from existing and nothing more. Let them fight each other in the streets I think they live for this stuff over there anyway. What if it turns into a revolution? Good, nothing could be better in the long run for us and our main concern of preventing a nuclear Iran.
We need to stay focused on where we are now, Iraq and Afghanistan, which I agree with by the way. We still hear the hype from the liberal left that claim we are only there because Bush was wrong about weapons of mass destruction. Big deal, the entire world at that time believe there were weapons of mass destruction, that ship has sailed, let it go and move on to your next abomination which is going to be North Korea if our President doesn’t do something besides talk everyday on TV about it.
Speaking of North Korea, I have an idea. What if we stopped kissing China’s back side and politely explain to them that we understand their reluctance to get involved in the North Korea situation, to which they hold all the cards over North Korea, so they leave us little choice but to lift the sanctions we imposed on Japan after World War II. We will allow Japan to rebuild their military to become once again a world power and we know in return they will support us when it comes to North Korea. After all, I am sure that China has nothing to fear from a powerful Japan right?
