Iridescent Shark Profile
Water - Freshwater
Scientific Name- Pangasius Hypothalmus
Common Name - Iridescent Shark
General Description- the iridescent shark is not really a shark at all, but actually a catfish that is native to Asia. They get their name from the iridescent color of their skin. They live in the deep waters of the mekong river basin.
Adult Size - 48 inches and weights up to 100 pounds (wow)
Aquarium Care - Iridescent sharks are not meant for small aquariums. Although they are only a couple of inches at the pet store they grow to over 4 feet long. They need a minimum aquarium size of 500 gallons. If kept in aquariums that are under 100 gallons their growth gets stunted along with their internal organs. You will end up with a very unhealthy fish that will not live very long.
Food - In the wild their diet consists of prawns and small fish. In the aquarium they will eat almost anything. Their favorite foods are blood worms, flakes, and brine shrimp.
Water Temperature - 72 to 82 degrees
Oxygenation- they don't require high dissolved oxygenation levels. They are more comfortable with low oxygenated water. This eliminates the need for a air stone of bubble wand.
Distribution - Iridescent Sharks mostly inhabit the waters of Asia and its close surrounding countries. They are not found in the wild anywhere in the United States.

Yes,people really keep those as pets but they need a really large tank to grow to 4 feet long. Most pet fish owners own a tank that is from 10 to 75 gallons. These fish need a tank in the range of 1000 gallons to reach the size in the picture.
By the way they dont have teeth lol.
good to know. I went to leave some fan mail about the koi fish, but I couldn't find the link. I wanted to know the mythology of a koi, or just what makes it so significant?

dang thats a big Asain Cat fish. Do people really keep them as pets? I would but I would be afraid it would eat my hand off.
