Irish tartan kilts are just a number of many kilts that are available for people to wear. Many people think that the Irish tartan kilts are some of the most beautiful ones that they have ever seen. Some people though also only consider that an Irish tartan kilt or any kilt for that matter is nothing other than a skirt for men which is not true. One thing that people do not consider is the history that is behind the Irish tartan kilts. Here some of the historical aspects that many people do not think about when they consider the Irish tartan kilts.

The first thing is that much debate ranges on where the kilt originated and will continue for quite some time. However, some people believe that the Irish tartan kilt came from the ancient Caledonia race of the Celts and was worn as a sign of nobility in the ancient world. So instead of being as what some people of today view a kilt as it is actually a sign of a noble and regal lifestyle.

The second thing that you might not realize is that the clan tartan kilt didn’t come about until after the 1600 era and prior to that it was basically wear what you wanted to at the time. However, the word tartan is actually meaning of the pattern that they have for the weaving involved in the Irish tartan kilts. So the historical significance of it being a tartan is more of the pattern weaving which helped the early kilts start coming about in a pattern which would later lead to the clan tartans.

The clan tartans came about some time after the tartan themselves. They decided after a revolution that they wanted to distinguish themselves in some pattern that people would know where they were from and the wealth status of them. This pattern is why you have specific colors for the different Irish tartan clan kilts. The specific history of each Irish tartan kilt is very rich and storied as well.

While many people will just consider the Irish tartan kilt as a form of a dress you will want to remember that they are not a dress or skirt of any form. Instead an Irish tartan kilt is a sign of the nobility of the time who used the specific color patterns to show where they are from and what kind of wealth that they had.
