I love coffee, so much so that I have started roasting my own coffee at home. As an introduction to the home coffee roasting realm, I started first with using an old hot air popcorn popper I had lying around, to see if I would thoroughly enjoy doing it myself. After a few batches, I was hooked. I knew the popcorn popper would no longer handle my needs. It ended up through a casual conversation that my wife came in contact with someone who did his own roasting at home, but could no longer drink coffee because of health conditions. My wife was asked if I would like to purchase his slightly used Iroast 2 home coffee roaster. I jumped on it right away.

Roasting coffee art home is not very time consuming at all and the finished product is much better than the average grocery store bought coffee. Green coffee beans are readily available to purchase online and the cost is well worth the high quality beans you can buy. Roasting at home gives you full control of the type coffee you want and the darkness of the roast.

Just because Iroast 2 is small, does not mean it can’t pack a serious punch. As far as quality home appliances are concerned, it is fantastic. You can experiment with your own roast times for different types of green coffee and save them in memory. The Iroast 2 will let you create your very own roast program settings and it will store up to 10 different programs in memory. If the roaster is unplugged, it will still save all of your settings as well.

When roasting green coffee beans, they produce a little chaff. Chaff is a fine skin that flies from the bean as your roast it. The Iroast 2 comes with a chaff collector, to make the mess as minimal as possible. It is very easy to remove the chaff collector between roast to ensure proper quality and safety.

The roaster can roast up to 150 grams of green coffee at a time. This usually delivers more than a few pots of freshly roasted coffee. Roasting times will vary, depending on the type of coffee bean and the darkness of roast you are wanting to achieve. For the most part, 10 minutes is the longest you will have to wait. As with any household appliances, you should always read the manual and get a defined list of directions before your first roast. The Iroast 2 is manufactured by Hearthware and they provide excellent product and warranty support should you ever need it.

If you are a true connoisseur of coffee like I am, the Iroast 2 is a very inexpensive home coffee roaster to get started with. You will not be disappointed with the roaster or the quality of roasted coffee it produces. Happy roasting!
