I read an article on CNN.com titled "Can the Enemy Build a Super-Soldier?"

It struck me as hilarious, because the obvious question I had to ask was, "What enemy?!"

It reminded me of church sermons that say things like "the enemy is a liar" or "the enemy is a coward" and other such things. Of course in church you know that "the enemy" of which they speak is "the devil" and "he" takes on many forms to the Christian and many Christians believe that they are fighting a constant battle against this enemy. So, who is America's enemy? The taliban? The soviets? Communists? All muslim extremists? Anyone who is not it's best friend?

What country in the world even has the technology to attempt something like that other than America?

I think America as a nation suffers from "self-fulfilling prophecy syndrome". It's a psychological ailment I made up in which a person concocts paranoid delusions of boogeymen out to get them, and then in the process of trying to prove that these boogey men are not merely fantasy (or as they attempt to make strides towards combating said boogeymen) they bring the boogeymen to life, or become the boogeymen themselves.

It's like in the movie Deja vu, where Denzel Washington's character was being led to believe that in trying to change the past (and stop an event from occuring) he becomes part of the process of causing the event to occur.

The article talks about the possibility of drugs increasing neural plasticity and hybrid people with giraffe genes that can subsist on only 1.9 hrs of sleep per night (I actually know someone who sleeps like that) or what would you think of remote controlled soldiers? (#1. I have actually considered the possibility that this was possible and #2. They claim to only be testing this idea on bugs right now...and not in the way I imagined). They illustrate their idea of a "super soldier" with a video game character. Specifically, Dolph Lundgren in the game Universal Soldier.

But this idea of breeding perfect human soldiers is not new. I'm sure it's been around ever since humanity invented the concept of organized warfare. We have examples of historical perspectives in movies like 300 and Troy, and people have already fantasized the future of engineering human killing machines in television shows like Dark Angel (where Jessica Alba made her debut).

So, is "the enemy" trying to build a super soldier? Yes. If the enemy in question is the United States government. There are already reports of soldiers and veterans being used in dangerous clinical trials. So, I suppose with no "peer competitor" (as quoted from the CNN article), I suppose there is no limit to how far the United States will go.

America sometimes forgets that she is not immune to thinking that she can surpass the God of the Bible, and claim that title for her own. She, like every great society before her, e.g. Rome, Greece, the Persians, China, etc. must either acknowlege as a nation that she needs to depend upon the God who's sovereignty she is trying to usurp, or become another 'has been' like so many fallen societies before her.

Like other people of the Earth, both past and present, we are capable of becoming so smugly sure of ourselves that we forget we live on a planet where nations have come and gone. we seem to believe we are entitled to the lives we lead, and yet we are not.

I can only hope that enough of us realize this life we live is a gift, not a certainty.

See the movie "Soldier". There's an interesting message buried in the special effects and violence.

America is in the business of making its paranoid delusions real. If there is no enemy we will produce one. WAR IS GOOD FOR THE ECONOMY!

It's funny you mentioned super soldiers since just yesterday I saw the new Incredible Hulk movie (and the last sentence made it seem there is going to be partnershop between Hulk and Iron Man) Good funny hub.
