Is Anger A Sin?
60A Feeling
I have noticed many Christian writers and Preachers that say that anger is a sin.
My question would be to these people, "how do you shut off a feeling?"
I truly believe that our Lord Jesus felt anger when he tipped over the money-changer tables in the House of God.
No, anger is not a sin; the sin may come with what you do with that anger.
Anger could be sin if it is derived from a selfish nature, but how can it be a sin if it is of a righteous cause?
Many Christians have been led to believe that anger is sin. Please look at the following sites and rethink this stand.

What does the Bible say about anger? What is the difference between anger and righteous indignation? - Latonia Baptist
That last link talks about how people repress their anger. That can be very dangerous. It will come out sooner or later.
My suggestion; hook up with people you can talk with.
I am a member of a great program called Celebrate Recovery. This program can show you how to deal with anger in a sane way.
We hear of news all the time of someone just slipping over the edge and hurting or killing someone. I would bet that many of these cases were mis-managed anger.
Do you have an anger problem? I know I do at times. You are not sinning! Now, if you do something ignorant with that anger, you may be sinning. Talk with someone; go by a punching bag; just find a healthy way to release that anger.
Definition of Anger:
Easton's Bible Dictionary
The emotion of instant displeasure on account of something evil that presents itself to our view. In itself it is an original susceptibility of our nature, just as love is, and is not necessarily sinful. It may, however, become sinful when causeless, or excessive, or protracted (Matthew 5:22; Ephesians 4:26; Colossians 3:8). As ascribed to God, it merely denotes his displeasure with sin and with sinners (Psalm 7:11).

Great Hug, can't add to a bit.
You are very right. Anger is not a sin. What you do with that anger might be. Love is not a sin. What you do out of love could be. The Bible plainly mentions God having anger. Last time I checked, God cannot sin. Therefore, anger is not wrong. He created these emotions in us to fully experience life. What kind of experience is for us to decide.
Thank you for a pointing this out.
I have never heard anybody say anger is a sin. And I hope they don't start now. Thanks.
Quite right. Anger is a signal. Anger can be an appropriate reaction, but even so it is an indicator for action. Sin only comes into play if you choose inappropriate actions. Take you for example, activating to protect children and to achieve justice. What a wonderful choice for coping with anger. What we choose defines us. You, by your actions, are defined as a loving, pro-active, compassionate and protective person.
Good Hub. I like the way you write.
Thanks spiderpam. Thanks for reading this.
It depends on what you do with your anger! Anger is a very controlling emotion if you allow yourself to dwell on the negatives then yes Anger can give birth to sin! You have given us an example on how to use our Anger wisely not only is it helping you but you are helping others! What a kind spirit an example for us all!
