In Seo their are 3 types of hats named as White hat seo, Black hat seo, Grey hat seo. White hat seo is the method used guinunely which covers onpage optimization, offpage optimization. Onpage optimization includes title tags, meta keywords, robots.txt, url structure, header tags (h1, h2, h3), bold and italic, anchortext, alt tag (image tag), keyword density (2 to 5% is good), keyword proximity or relevance, sitemap,  where as offpage optimization including many promoting methods ie article marketing, social bookmarking, social networking, video marketing, rss submissions, article submissions, blog commenting, blogging, press releases, directory submissions. These are the methods which works very very better for white hat seo.

While the Black hat seo is a way to get the site rank much faster but in this the risks are are involves in high range. Their is no guarantee for a site to get high rank using black hat seo.

Grey hat seo is a method mixed up of white hat and black hat seo. This method works sometimes and sometimes not.  A professional grey hat seo can manage his site to get his site rank well but if google finds outs that he is using some black hat method then his site will be get punished, punished means his site will get baan for permanently and sometimes google will block his ip address to avoid further seo works from his system.

So White hat seo is always better but we have to work for longer time and of average using white hat seo takes around 6 months to 1 year to get good rank and it depends on how the site owner works and which methods he used.
