The term "addiction" is used in many contexts to describe an obsession, compulsion, or excessive physical dependence or psychological dependence, such as: drug addiction, sex addiction,alcoholism, compulsive overeating, problem gambling, computer addiction, etc.
In my experience writing hub or any activity if we do daily is like an addiction. About 2 weeks back when I started writing hub. Now I am so hooked to visit this site that whenever I get time to access web I always visit the Hub Pages. HubPages has become mine daily habit.
In medical terminology, addiction is a state in which the body relies on a substance for normal functioning and develops physical dependence, as in drug addiction. When the drug or substance on which someone is dependent is suddenly removed, it will cause withdrawal, a characteristic set of signs and symptoms. Addiction is generally associated with increased drug tolerance. In physiological terms, addiction is not necessarily associated with substance abuse since this form of addiction can result from using medication as prescribed by a doctor.
People can get addicted to all sorts of substances. When we think of addiction, we usually think of alcohol or illegal drugs. But people become addicted to hub writing, Internet, medications, cigarettes, even glue! And some substances are more addictive than others: Drugs like crack or heroin are so addictive that they might only be used once or twice before the user loses control.
Signs that we have addiction to Hubpages include:
Psychological signals:
- Loss of interest in activities that used to be important
- spending a lot of time figuring out how to write good article
- stealing or selling belongings to be able to afford drugs
- failed attempts to stop not to writing
Physical signals:
- Changes in writing habits
- feeling shaky or sick when not to write
- Changes in writing habits, including missing work.
I find once start writing you do not want to stops. I think this is not a bad addiction. As writing make you wiser. Here are some benefits of writing addiction:
1. Writing makes your name popular by consistently using the same or similar name.
2. Writing is to build quality one way links which can also draw ranking and traffic to your work: More-Traffic-and-Make-More-Money

nice hub but in my personal opinion hub writing is not an addiction but may be a passion or hobby to lot of us . it is fun and useful . for example if u go to office and work daily r u addicted to it no you enjoy holidays too just like that we enjoy writing hubs and also we are not addicted to it

It can be addicting. I'm enjoying it myself. The challenege is learning how to get better. I found that I try different things (add a capsule, bold certain words) really changes the exposure and the scoring. Look at it more as a game.

ha yeah hub writiing seems addictive. i wrote my first like yesterday and im writing another now. re; your grammar: either you type really fast or english is not your first language. otherwise you write cool informative hubs. im guessing english is not your first language. it would explain a lot. oh yeah thank you for the "nice hub" on mine. I thought my article was aweful! i'll edit and make it better later

Nice hub, Lgail. It raised a lot of questions. I enjoy writing articles. In fact, I see myself as a hubber for life! However, I don't feel as if it is an addiction. As a passion? I would answer yes.

Well, I get a definite "high" from interacting with fun hubbers and getting positive comments on my hubs. I do go into "withdrawal" if forced to stay away from HP for too long. I obsess about ideas to write new hubs about. Yep, I think it's addicting (and like RGraf said, thinking about it as a game -- gaming can be very addicting too!). Good hub, Lgali. Keep em coming! MM
My humble opinion, for what it is worth, is that hubbing isn't a Addiction it is a privlge the we can indulge in. As a writer I like to find as many outlets for expression as I can. I write web sites, blogs, articles, and even lots of email. I write both for myself and for others. If you call that an addiction so be it it one I am proud to live with.

Yes! It's addictive. I have trouble logging off after I've started reading hubs. Sometimes I sit down to write a hub and end up spending the little free time I have reading hubs....great hub!

Trust me I never knew what addiction was, before I joined hub pages. U r absolutely right..things which were earlier important suddenly became insignificant for me. Staying up till late hours seems to be normal now. Lol
