Is Internet Marketing Too Crowded?

Should you go into the Internet marketing niche?

Every now and then I come across the somewhat perennial debate over whether the Internet marketing niche - i.e. the market niche devoted to products and services teaching Internet marketing - is too crowded.

In one sense, the Internet marketing arena is too crowded - there are way too many sub-standard products being marketed. On the other hand, and perhaps because there are so many sub-standard products, there is always room for Internet marketing products and services that solve real problems or otherwise deliver genuine value to people.

What this means is that if a person goes into the Internet marketing niche with an unoriginal copy-cat product or service that provides nothing new, special or better than the many Internet products or services already available, then they'll find themselves competing with a lot of other players.

Alternatively, if someone has a new and better solution to an old problem, or can deliver a product or service that provides much more value than anyone else in the market, they'll have much better odds at finding an audience.

None of this is to say that there aren't some Internet marketers doing well with questionable products, or that all you have to do is 'build a better Internet marketing product and they will come.' Like just about every other market or niche you can name there are instances where rather average - or even poor - products or services attract customs... and high quality products or services fail to find an audience.

This is often due to those behind the products or services getting - or failing to get - distribution. Given how competitive the Internet marketing niche is, it's essential that you have the ability to get your products and services into the hands of lots of people.

Now, we are talking about the Internet marketing niche. So, to some extent, you have to wonder about Internet marketers who are unable to market their own 'high quality' products or services! And, by the same token, you'd expect that most Internet marketers who sell into the Internet marketing niche again and again must be offering something of value.

Unfortunately, however, there do seem to be those who are particularly skilled at selling somewhat average products to 'newbie' customers. So although they don't necessarily get repeat customers, they still do fairly well because they're able to reach and convert the next bunch of Internet marketing newcomers.

Be that as it may, I still think that the Internet marketers with the greatest presence in the Internet marketing niche are those who practice what they preach: they utilize sound Internet marketing strategies to deliver quality Internet marketing products and services. These companies, guys and gals generate new and repeat customers alike because they provide value.

But that doesn't mean there isn't room at the top. Again, like most markets, the Internet marketing niche is much like a pyramid: a few top quality Internet marketing providers at the top, and plenty of sub-standard providers at the bottom. So, in that sense, if you have something of exceptional value to provide, you won't have as much competition at the top as you would if you tried to sell a copy-cat ebook, home study course, etc at the bottom.
