Many people have the unfortunate problem of having stretch marks over their body. People who have them often do not know how it is caused. Even though we are not too sure why they happen, we do know how it is caused. Due to the lack on elastin and collagen in the body, the little protein that is left is broken down into the skin. A variety of reasons which cause this include stress or accidents like acne or having burns on the body. The marks can also be made from pregnancy, big weight loss or body building. Lots of people wish to have them gone, and laser therapy for stretch marks is one of the best ways to do so. There are good and bad points about the surgery.

Lots of people are afraid of this type of surgery as they do not know how the laser works. People generally believe that the laser burns off the skin. It doesn’t. The laser actually stimulates the skin which is found underneath the top layer of skin. Lots of people see large improvements as the skin is thickened and collagen and elastin levels increase. Studies in the field have shown that 70% of people which have laser therapy for stretch marks have shown a large improvement. Everyone else who was surveyed had at least the problem 50% better than before. The laser surgery is designed to stimulate the deficient areas which lack the important proteins.

But people do see the downsides of having stretch mark therapy such as this. One of these is the consequence of having the laser shone onto the body. Although the appearance of the skin will look better at first, there could be underlying scars that appear later on in life. For some people, laser therapy for stretch marks can make the problem even worse, so it is best for people which have sensitive skin to have a consultation prior to the treatment to see if it is viable for them. The cost of stretch mark surgery like this can put many people off the treatment.

On the whole, laser therapy for stretch marks can be a very good idea for those people which have the money to spend on it at the moment. There is very little chance of having a problem, but if a person does, it could be quite significant. This is why it is best to meet a specialised doctor in the field before having treatment to see if laser therapy for the stretch marks is the best idea.
