Is Limewire illegal?
62As lots of people know, Limewire is just one of the many programs in which you can download music, videos and pictures for FREE.
Recently, goverments have started crackdowns on illegal music downloads. If you use Limewire, or any free music downloading software, you might be asking yourself 'is _____ illegal?'
Firstly, the program itself is NOT illegal. They are mainly here to provide music that others create and post. This method is P2P (Peer to peer) and could have many viruses, so if you use P2P methods, ALWAYS scan the items.
On the other hand, downloading copyrighted material IS illegal, and can result in i.p bans and the likes. If the music is really old, the copyright might have expired making it legal to download.
Limewire is now opening a store, where music can be bought and safely downloaded. As for other programs of the same type, I guess they'll start opening up stores.
In conclusion, Limewire is not illegal. Neither is Bearshare or any other software like that. They are just peer to peer programs. People will upload music, it might be copyrighted, it might not be. Just make sure you don't break the law, or there will be concequences.
