The Magic Jack works for many people. Business people take it with them on trips and it enables them to communicate cheaply with their offices even while overseas. College students use it to call home to ask their parents to send money. The elderly uses it keep in touch with their grand kids, who may otherwise never call them.

The beauty of this technology is that it's small and easily portable. It, also, gives users very high quality reception that is not restricted to certain areas or countries. It is very, very easy to use. It does not require any thick manuals or handbooks. You, also, don't have to dial 10 numbers before you dial the number that you want to call.

Users simply plug their regular home phone into the Magic Jack, plug the Magic Jack into any of the USB ports on their high speed Internet computers, and, voila! they are read to call anywhere in the USA or Canada for a whole year without having to worry about the phone bills. In addition, it reduces the number of monthly bills that comes to your homes and that can only be a great thing, right?

Ordering the Magic Jack is done either via phone or online. There are discounts available on certain websites; you can do some researching to see where you might be able to purchase it for a little less. The actual Magic Jack costs under $40 each. Be sure to check to see if there are area codes available for your state; if not, you could opt to use the area code of a different state.

It should be no surprise if traditional phone service providers like AT&T or Sprint soon develop a similar technology for their customers. The success of the Magic Jack has guaranteed that this phone service is more than just a flash in the pan. Traditional phone service providers will have to conform to the new way of communicating by telephone or they'll continue to lose customers.

There are some essentials that you need to know before taking the plunge and shifting over to MagicJack.

1) Pricing: The USB MagicJack costs about $35-$40 depending on where you get it. You then pay $19, this has to be paid once you have bought your device, for unlimited calling in the United States, Canada and parts of central America. Calls outside this region are then chargeable, but very reasonable. For example the call rate to the UK was $0.02 per minute. With such an effective and competitive pricing you can expect to cut down your bills by around 25$. Not bad at all.

2) Privacy concerns: According to the company's end user license agreement, the company would be playing advertisements in order to keep the business thriving. The software doesn't work without the advertisements and are an integral part of MagicJack. Doesn't sound bad, does it? Fathom this; they would also be analyzing the phone numbers called by you in order to improve the relevance of advertisements. Thus there are chances of your privacy being compromised at some fronts.

3) Installation and Un-installation: The software is very easy to install. Just install the USB in the USB port of your computer. MagicJack is auto detected by your computer. It then auto launches software which guides you through the setup, which will seek some basic information such as area code, location and address for the installation to complete. But it is not where the problem lies, the problem is, it is hard to get rid off. There is no easy way to uninstall the software; the program doesn't even shows up in Windows Remove Program window. Multiple registry edits need to be performed for the process, several folders are to be removed from the Windows system.

So there you have it, MagicJack comes with its pros and cons. Buy it or dump it according to your priorities

This Magic Jack review is for anyone who wants to lower their phone bill, but keep the same features as your previous phone company. Or you may have just seen the commercial and want to try it out. Currently Magic Jack has a 30 day free trial and I highly recommend you give it a try.

About the same size as a AT&T wireless card the Magic Jack connects to your USB drive on your computer. This is voip technology, therefore it needs to be connected to the internet at all times.Your actual phone will plug into your magic jack on your computer.Honestly, I am a long time Vonage customer, and loved the service (especially at 24.99 a month),but probably like you, had to check out magic jack because of the awesome price they offer along with the features you expect with your phone service.

The price $39.95 for the year is undoubtdely the best phone deal ever! At this cost I saved just under $300 for the year! I received my magic jack in about 4 days and was able to set up everything and have a dial tone in about 10 minutes. Basically you plug in your phone jack and follow the prompts on the screen. You can even choose what area code you want for your magic jack phone number. For those NOT technically gifted, my dad (who couldn't check his emails for awhile) was able to set his up with no problem, and you shouldn't either.

Quick Magic Jack Review:

Pros:

1. You can use any type phone to connect to the magic jack (cordless, wall).

2. Take magic jack with you on your business and personal vacations. (If you have a laptop and a internet connection)

3. The Magic Jack Service is the cheapest in history at 39.95 the first year and 19.95 a year thereafter!

4. Magic Jack emails your voice mail to so you can check your messages anytime.

5.Unlimited local and long distance calling to anyone in the US or Canada (my favorite feature)

6.Sounds as clear as a regular phone with regular phone features - BUT it's only 19.95 a year!

7.Magic Jack provides all the normal features: call waiting, 911, conference calling and voice mail. It also has a "follow-me" feature that forwards calls to other phone numbers when you aren't online.

Cons:

1. Limited to 2 Magic Jacks per household.

2. Cannot get free trial with use of a debit card. You will still have option to 30 day refund, but you must pay 39.95 up front.
