Is now a good time for beginners to buy stocks?

With the current economic climate being so poor a lot of people out there are wondering if now is a good time to buy stocks for beginners? In my experience, I would say absolutely yes! Buying stocks and shares can be a bit of a gamble especially if you're new to buying stocks online. That's why there's so many guides out there for 'how to buy stocks for beginners' or 'buy stocks for dummies'. You know what I'm talking about, you might even have bought a few of the ebooks! To be honest, the only people that ever seem to make money from these ebooks is the authors themselves. It's poor suckers like us who buy into this idea that we can get rich quick by playing the stock market which is not really the case. The great thing about the current economic climate is that stock prices have tumbled. If you look at the price of stocks now compared to a year ago you'll see what I mean. The easiest way to do this is to create an account with yahoo finance and trawl through the stock figures there.

So you get that stocks are cheaper now right? Cheaper means more value. More bang for your buck or however you want to say it. Now you might say about companies going bust left right and center. Yes that is an added risk that might not have been so prominent this time last year! No stock market strategy is full proof and so there is always a risk. I'd say with cheaper stocks it's however less of a risk to get involved than paying over inflated prices which you would have done last year.

I'd recommend you stick to the value investing technique made famous by Warren Buffett as the whole theory is based around getting value for money. This is something that should be fairly straight forward with stocks tumbling in price. Stick to market leaders in a particular area. If one company is dominating in tech stocks stick with them as the general school of thought is they'll be safest from going bankrupt. Also don't invest in areas that you don't know about. If you're a total non techie don't invest in tech stocks! It helps to understand the business. If you understand the business you're investing in there's more chance you'll be able to spot a bargain when you see one. It should also help you to avoid investing in bad companies as you'll understand the market they work in and the moves they have made in recent times.

In summary I would say now is a good time for beginners to get involved in the stock market. Beginners should at least have a try and the fantasy stock market which you can do online and will cost you know money. It works in exactly the same way as the real stock market except that it lets you you practice without risking any of your own money. You can always try this for six months to determine if you're ready for the real thing.
