Is Tithing is Unscriptural Under the New Covenant?
66Give to Caesar...
In the Old Testament (Covenant), we are told specifically to give 10% of our wealth/income. Jesus did not come to do away with the old covenant. That he explained himself in Matthew 5:17: "Do not think that I have come to abolish the Law or the Prophets; I have not come to abolish them but to fulfill them." The Law of course, is the commands given in the old testament. Therefore, the new covenant does not do away with the laws of the old unless, tied directly to Jesus' sacrifice.
Furthermore, Jesus explains in Matthew 22 about money when the Pharisees were trying to trick him about taxes. He said, give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's. Because the coin had Caesar's inscription on it, Jesus said it belongs to Caesar. Likewise, because we have God's inscription on us, we belong to him. The law is not done away with, but expanded. It is no longer a simple 10%, but we are to view all our money as God's, and we are the stewards, or caretakers of it. Of course, 10% is a good measuring rod, to make sure we are taking care of the church. If God suggested it in the first place, why would we be trying to do away with it? There's nothing in the New Covenant to really take it's place, like Jesus' sacrifice takes the place of all the animal sacrifices.
Bottom line, and it is all about the bottom line, isn't it? Malachi 3:10 says to test God by giving him the tithes and he will throw open the floodgates of heaven for us. Why do you want to miss out on the floodgates of heaven? Do you honestly think you can do better with your money than the God of the universe? Think it over. I would rely on God's promise of blessing. It just seems like a smarter investment. :)

Perfect explanation! Exactly how I would have answered it without my whole schpeel on the pagan traditions adopted by most Christians!....
perfect points!!!!
Jesus even today receives tithes!
I want to understand from those who said we should not pay tithes, how do they understand Hebrews 7 vs 8? It says "And here man that die receive tithes, but there he(Christ) receiveth them, of 'whom' it is witnessed that he(Christ) liveth"KJV. Who is then receiving tithes here whom it is believed/testified/witnessed that 'he' lives?
Tithing is in fact before the Law. Abraham paid tithes to Melchisidek before the Law was actually given.
Good hub nonetheless. How far can $90 go with the blessings of God compared to $100 with God's curse? God loves a cheerful giver. If you must be coerced into giving or give begrudgingly you may as well just keep it. God doesn't NEED your money anyway.
