There is quite a debate raging in the memory foam mattress topper world. You may not be aware, but the hot debate is quite literally about that, "hotness." Unfortunately, owning a foam bed does not increase your "cool" factor, but it may keep you from getting the restful sleep you're after. The debate is about 50-50 for and against the notion that a mattress topper made of foam is hotter than a traditional mattress. Some notice this phenomenon, where some do not. Regardless of how a person's personal mattress topper is perceived, it is proven that foam beds do indeed run hotter.

I don't know about you, but there are two things that make sleep impossible. Well, three if you count a screaming baby. However, babies aside, the two problems that keep me up are back pain and if I am too hot. Interestingly, a memory foam mattress topper is able to help with both of these. Bear with me, I know that it sounds like I just contradicted myself, but if you stay with me a bit longer, I will state my case.

Memory foam mattresses tend to retain heat, by nature of the material itself. however, some companies have taken steps to limit the amount of heat stored in these beds, for a cooler and more comfortable sleep.

Memory foam beds burst onto the market when consumers demanded a more comfortable, relaxing sleeping experience. Back pain is extremely common, and those mattress springs really don't do it any favors. However, it is worth pointing out that not all foam is created equal. A simple foam mattress will just not do. You will run back to your traditional mattress and curse the day you even saw a foam bed. No, you will want to find a high-density foam mattress or mattress topper. The denser the foam, the more durability, supports and overall benefit your mattress will offer. Yet, this is still not adequate for a restful sleep. Your back may find relief and sleep will quickly overtake you, but at around 2 AM you are awake and unable to fall back asleep. Is it the baby? Can't be, all the kids are out of the house. You are hot, uncomfortable, and even with the covers kicked to the floor, you just can't fall asleep.

Memory foam innately works against itself when providing nighttime rest. In order to remain soft and pliable, heat is needed. It is heat that keeps your memory foam mattress topper adjusting to your body position night after night. But foam bed companies are smart. With continued research and analysis, companies such as Sleep Aid have developed new memory foam technology and design. Such new technologies have developed ways to ensure your sleep is uninterrupted, at least due to overheating.

The new technology which makes a foam bed mattress topper undeniable cooler than standard foam beds is known as heat reduction channels. Some memory foam producers use this technology to offer a better, well-rounded product. The design is achieved by precise laser cuts that cut channels into the memory foam. This allows for proper air circulation and an all-over cooling effect. In addition to the new design, there are other ways to reduce excess heat from your mattress.

If you already have a memory foam mattress topper and didn't know about the heat reduction channel option, there are easy ways to keep your bed cool. There are many cotton sheets that are known for their cooling properties. Also, a thin mattress pad can do wonders for cooling. Simply place the pad over the foam bed or mattress topper and cover the entire assemble with cool sheets. You will most definitely find your next night on your foam bed interruption free.
