77Why is a lacy slip so seductive?
The lacy slip is a rare sight these days but many men find the glimpse of a lacy hem peeking out under a skirt or dress a real turn-on and find women in slips far more seductive and sexy than seeing full nudes.
Slips are made of silk, satin or nylon and are either full slips or waist slips. Many people have favourite types and nylon is very popular because of its semi see-through look and its very soft and sensual feel. Full slips often have lacy bust areas as well as lace on the hems. There are slips with pleating and double layered slips, slips covered in lace, slips with embroidery and slips in just about any colour and combination of colours.
Back in the swinging '60s and earlier on in the '50s petticoats and slips were commonly worn as a woman or girl's undergarment but in recent years the practice has got less and less. For some bizarre reason clothing manufacturers and fashion designers have not been catering for the public tastes when it comes to these items of underwear, which seems strange in view of the way everything else is packaged and sold to us, and what was once thought of as scandalous and shocking is no longer so.
We all know that sex is used to sell us anything advertisers can think of to link with the subject and anything which is sexy or raunchy will get plenty of interest so why is it slips are left out to the extent they have been? Many people think a lacy slip is the most sexy article of clothing that can be worn and there are very many who have a slip fetish.
Movie directors and producers know all about the erotic appeal of a woman dressed in a lacy slip and countless actresses and some singers too have appeared in films wearing slips or have had photoshoots with them dressed in this article of sexy lingerie.
Michelle Pfeifer, Elizabeth Taylor, Joely Richardson, Catherine Deneuve, Kim Basinger, Gillian Anderson, Joan Collins, Sherilynn Fenn, Jane Fonda, Catherine Zeta Jones, Kylie Minogue and Sharon Stone are all examples but there are very many more. Janet Leigh appears wearing a waist slip in the classic horror film Psycho.
It is not just the men who find slips and petticoats very sexy because very many women do too and say that it makes them feel more feminine and attractive wearing these clothes. This has led to the demand being supplied by sellers of vintage clothing with many specialising in lingerie.

Also a growing number of women such as Mercedes and Lady Phenie are running websites and appearing in photos as a form of glamour modelling.
Jen is another lady, who runs a very popular slip and lingerie site. These women and their sites all make a point of stating that what they are presenting is not pornography and there is no nudity involved.
A young lady called Kate runs a website,
which features loads of photos of her wearing glamorous lingerie
including sexy slips, of course, and she told me she was thinking of
getting a slip campaign going. I hope she does!
There are a large selection of videos of a model called Rosalia on Youtube, with her mainly wearing slips in a bid to help sell the clothing on Ebay for Anniepanties.
In the '90s and continuing, there have been a number of young women indie and grunge rock stars and singers like Courtney Love, who have worn slips on stage as part of their raunchy image. Katie-Jane Garside came to fame with Daisy Chainsaw when the band had a hit with Love Your Money, and she was photographed for the music press wearing a slip at the time.
This led to fashion for
a while of slips being worn as outer garments, often over jeans or
leggings. There have also been slip dresses produced by fashion
manufacturers and these are often hemmed with lace although they don't
have the same appeal as the real thing peeking out from under a dress
or skirt. Pop singer Kylie Minogue was featured on the front of FHM
magazine wearing a slip dress.
Because slips have become somewhat of a rarity these days there are even Internet forums where slip lovers discuss slip sightings.
Charity shops are one place that people go to buy slips and others get theirs onine at sites like Ebay. You would think that with all this call for these sexy garments that someone would go into making them in quantity like they once did. Are the days of the lacy slip over? I think and hope not!

I dont' like nylon - only natural fibres, especially against my skin
Yes, you are certainly not alone in that, London Girl, but silk and some sorts of satin are natural fibres! However, many people think that nylon looks and feels better than the more expensive natural silk, although having said that it is usually the vintage nylon which was the very high quality and not the modern versions. You would have thought that manufacturers could have improved on things since the 50s and 60s so I don't know why that should be but it shows why there is a demand for the vintage garments.
I had to read this one - I'm a tomboy at heart, even at 51 years of age and go around in blue jeans and such .... but I do love to get feminine every so often - nothing better than a bit of silk and lace for that ! Thanks - going to be your fan now.

Amen. I am so glad that I found this hub, because I have been very disappointed that women no longer wear slips as underwear. I grew up in the 50's and 60's when when wore pretty nylon and lace trim slips all the time, How exciting if you had a chance to see a woman wearing one of showing under a dress or skirt.
I agree with everything on this hub, except for Londongirl who likes natural fibers against her skin. She does not know what she is missing by not wearing nylon, silk, and satin made slips for men to admire her in.
Also, it is too bad that women do not wear nylon slips anymore. I also find silky nylon full slips or half slips as the sexiest underwear on the planet. I hope the fashion designers will bring slips back in style as women's underwear.

Slips are the best thing EVER CREATED by humans as a female underwear. It's the sexiest clothing EVER made. Even men like I have a STRONG fetish for it. Sometimes I wear them. I wish women would one day stand up to feminity again and throw away the hard-core trash called nudity! Instead let them even wear it in public like they wear bikinis and the rest. I have never worn a slip, but I am aware of what they are, as my grandmother (still!) chastises me for wearing skirts and dresses without them. Had no idea that they could be so cute, as the only ones I have seen are simple white (no lace or colors or anything like that) and were kind of a rough fabric. I may have to look into that, I looooove lingere!

Modern ones often have no lace and are just plain white with no frills or lacy busts. This is why there is so much demand for the vintage ones, which are real works of art!
Full slips are ideal for wearing to bed and are indeed "sexy little things to wear to bed."
Africa, especially Nigeria where I come from has a lot of women wearing the famous masterpiece of lingerie. Both young and old ladies wear them here and I'm proud to say it's the best lingerie ever created and it will SURELY return to the scene and stay forever.
Plenty of old women wear them here too but I haven't seen any younger women doing so! In many ways Tenerife is like the UK was about 30 years ago so it doesn't surprise me.
I grew up throught the 70 and 80's. And I loved it when I saw an attractive women walk by with a little lace peaking out from a slit of her dress or skirt. Something about it...just was real sexy! I must say I miss it.

I grew up in the 50's and 60's and was taught to wear a slip full or half under my dresses so I always enjoyed wearing them. In today's fashion they tend to tell the women slips aren't needed but it is not attractive to look at a women in a dress and be able to see right through it. It is more mysterious and seductive to see a women in a dress with a bit of slip showing or not, and not be able to see through her dress. Then you know she is wearing a slip! Peaks your interest a bit I think and perhaps more women should realize that and demand quality lingerie, undergarments. Great Hub, Thanks!

What you say is absolutely true Oh Great Bard. NOTHING looks more sexy than a flash of lacy white slip hem peeking below a skirt. Luckily for me my gorgeous wife Jackie, who is in her late forties, is a passionate slip wearer. She would not dream of going out in anything other than a nice skirt (usually black, calf length and very flared) with a white flared syle half slip underneath....quite often almost as long as the skirt for "effect"...ie. peeking! She has worn slips since she was a teenager at school in the 70s, and the first thing I noticed about her when we first met was her lacy white slip peeking from under her black skirt...oh so sexy!! She had me hooked hahaha. We have been married now for nearly 25 years and in all that time I have never known her wear a skirt without a slip underneath. So in our household slips are alive and well and will always be in fashion. I have no need for viagra when Jackie wears a beautiful half slip and swirly skirt...slip heaven lol!!

This is probably the sexiest article of lingerie ever created in the mind of man. Or was it a woman who first designed the slip? Would a slip be more likely to be the concept of a woman? One would think something so feminine would have to come from a woman's mind. But perhaps it didn't. Perhaps it represents men's beliefs or desires of what they want a woman to be. However since men and women have both enjoyed these wispy little sheaths of silk or nylon for decades, maybe the slip is part of an ideal shared by both sexes as to what a woman should be. Just something to ponder.

I really miss glimpses of slips nowadays. I've been an admirer for many years and have gathered my own private collection of waist and full slips. Charity shops are a good source of supply. It's sad the ladies nowadays prefer not to wear slips, I hope they'll make a comeback soon.

Very sexy hub. I used to really love wearing slips. Slips were mandatory when wearing a dress sheer enough that the silhouette of one's legs showed when backlit, back when I was growing up. Nowadays skirts are usually designed so that this isn't a problem, so a slip isn't needed.
And of course, you never wear a slip with pants.
So slips are going the way of stockings, corsets, and garter belts. They're not "real" clothes, they're costumes, lingerie worn for pleasure, not for fashion.

It seems strange in a world increasingly driven by how good people and things look that an item of clothing that definitely helps women look more attractive has been on its way out. Not to mention how good they feel! Surely clothes should feel good as well as be functional? It just doesn't add up!

Back in the late 1960's when women began wearing mini skirts, this must have been a great time for getting regular glimpses of a slip showing. As skirts lengths became very short, the length of slips couldn't have been that much less than the skirts, so much more likely to peek out, presuming that women wore slips under mini skirts then. Unfortunately I wasn't around then so I don't actually know, perhaps people who were can enlighten me?

A slip is definitley the most feminine item of clothing. A bra is womanly but a slip is feminine. It is a pity most modern women have let go of this item in favour of .... what?
While it is undoubtedly true that a woman in a slip looks far more alluring than in anything else, it is also the case that most men just do not allow themselves to appreciate what a skip feels like. Against the skin it is just fabulous.
OK, it used to be a 'sensation' holding a woman who was wearing a slip which enabled a man to get that tactile experience but it is rare these days.
When I was a lad, the 'transition' from little girl to big girl was marked by a longer dress with a slip. That was back in the 50's. A girl used to look forward to her first grown-up slip. And as a lad I was always on the lookout for that lacy flash at the hem of a dress. It was only later that I discovered wearing one myself.
I wear a short slip a lot. I have several. They go well under a shirt and tuck into trousers easily. I also have some longer slips (to the knee) in which I can lounge in of an evening; It is pleasant to sit and see a lacy hem at my knee. And I have some floor length ones that are nice for late evening that not only keep my legs warm but feel so fine around my calves.
I also have some petticoats, including a mid-length very full chiffon petticoat that feels gorgeous.
I often wonder if the 'explosion' of cross dressing - well chaps wearing women's underwear - is due to women themselves not being so adventurous in that regard and giving up so much of femininity.
Slip wearing is great. For ladies, sexy, for men, wonderful. I can't imagine a world without it. Don't know but fashion these days has pushed feminity into the shadows. I'm now a full cross dresser and I LIKE IT!!!
My wife ADORES slips. She knows that when she goes about the house in only a full slip (cooler months) or half slip (warmer months) that she has gotten my attention. She will even wear 3 to 4 under her skirts. On one evening out, she wore nine slips (3 full, 6 half) under her dress. When she wants to have a bit of extra fun, she wears 1950's style petticoats or full slips that have the full petticoat style from waist down. These do have a bit of a problem staying hidden under her skirts, but I think she knows that. The one type of slip that I kind of cringe on is when she wear a torn up slip.

Growing up in the 1960 /1970s , my mother always wore a slip. Although she was not comfortable with me seeing her in her knickers she was quite happy to walk about the house with just her slip on, even though being of sheer nylon, her panties were always clearly visable underneath.
My wife, like a previous comment is from Nigeria where most women still wear slips. When we first met she explained to me that when wearing native attire the skirt is formed simply by wrapping a length of material around the waist and so to avoid showing the world their knickers should the material come adrift, women wear a slip underneath.

I alway wear a full nylon slips under my dress or skirt, except for summer dresses with thin straps or mini skirts, and to Liam,s delight I also wear nylon panties daily, I love the feel of nylon next to my skin it makes me feel very feminine, and also very sexy. I am very fortunate that my husband loves my choice of lingerie and some time,s buys me lingerie for my birthday, luky me!!!!!! To all you girls reading this, start wearing nylon lingerie you do not know what you are missing out on, beleive me I know the benefits.

Slips & Petticoats are without a doubt the sexiest article of clothing a woman can wear. If you dont't believe me Ladies, try going out with a little lace peeking out the hem of your skirt or dress and see how much attention it receives.
My wife ususally wears slips with skirts and dresses and always wears a full slip to bed, ususally a vintage Van Raalte or Vanity fair.
