Is anyone held accountable anymore? Chime in! Life/Real Estate/Bail Out and Government Assistance

I would be interested in hearing anyone's views on what will happen to those who bought in the "high" time. I can not be the only one! I will use myself as an example and am opening up for any thoughts or if anyone else sees things differently:

My home was bought in 2006 for $165k, at the time it was the cheapest house in a decent area we could find. We did $25k worth of work on it. Last week we had it appraised to see where we stood (we have made EVERY payment NEVER late etc.) Home is now worth $120k because 3 in my neighborhood foreclosed (not us).

I am not the only one whose home is losing value due to others not fulfilling their obligations. Why is it that some of these people who defaulted/foreclosed are now getting government assistance?  (A woman in the neighborhood foreclosed on her hom and now rents the house next to the one they were evicted from and the government, ie my tax dollars, pay for 60% of her rent). She also has 2 children and her boyfriend lives with them but since they are not married she gets government assistance for the children as well.

How do I know this? Because she is proud of the fact that she is "getting over on the system." And has been quite outspoken telling me how I could have done the same had I not named my husband as my daughter's father for example. Or if we were not married. (Please note these are "tips and suggestions" from her.)  I understand how it was intended to be used, but it is not that way anymore.  Some people have learned how to use the system and are teaching their children how to do the same, in a case of 1 rotten apple spoils the bunch.

Today on the radio there were 4 commercials on my way to the store for reducing your debt. ie: "If you owe $10 or more in back taxes call us and we can get a settlement for pennies on the dollar." Same with Credit Cards. Now why do these people not have to pay their taxes (ALL of them) or their credit card bills when the rest of us do?

The government is bailing out large corporations who made millions if not billions on bad business decisions. They are giving BILLIONS to these groups, while their CEO's etc continue to take huge salaries and fly on corporate jets. They are not taking pay cuts, maybe a freeze but when you are making $500+k per year, with benefits I don't consider this a hardship, sorry. They should be fired!

When did accountablity go out the window? When did it become harrassment or discrimination for expecting someone to pay their debt reguardless of race, creed or color?

I remember growing up and when I misbehaved I got my rear end swatted. Going to the principal was a true fear, and the ramifications when I got home (I was going to get my little butt wore out!) were 110% real. Now this is abuse, the teachers and Principal's have no authority over the children and worse the children know it. Why because their parents are like my outspoken neighbor, telling them how any discipline or reprimand is rights for a law suit of some sort.

And most disturbing is that this way of thinking, that there are no repercussions or accountability, is becomming the majority... Or am I wrong? Is it the majority are are the majority being pushed aside by the minority way of thinking?

I know where you're coming from...our home is worth about half of what we paid in 2005. Fortunately we don't have trouble making our payments, and our mortgage is our only debt. We're surrounded by foreclosures too. It makes me really angry when people shirk their responsibility and walk away from their homes. I just keep telling myself that we bought this house to stay here, not as an investment. So years from now the values will go back up and everything will be fine :) I hope!

Girl you are on point with this stuff.

What is the most discrimated race? Single white male!

Be a single white male and try to get help! I tried when I was getting out of the military, me and my wife where on the rocks. I was taking care of our daughter. Could get no help daycare, food, housing, Nothing, even being a veteran! My wife on the other hand, if she had her stuff taken care of could have found shelter, food, gotten money. They need to end this helping specific types of people and make it case by case across the board.

I don't agree with Bailouts either. If I had a business and it failed it would be on me. But because these people owe so much it can be excused? I was smart I only went with what I can handle. That is the risk of doing business.
