Crate Training Your Puppy is it cruel?

Is crate training puppy cruel?, well it is if you decide that your new bundle of puppy joy is a pain in the ass running around and biting and riping your best curtains and nipping a couple of lumps out of your first born.

If your puppy is an inconvenience then there are better ways of looking after it than keeping it locked up in a small cage for most of the day and night, a bigger pen outside would be better depending on the age of the puppy and of course a good dog house or shed would be needed to house your puppy if its going to be left for long periods of time, a crate for crate training is not suitable here.

Crate training usually centre on the puppy and require attention for someone in the area all the time to monitor your puppy. The idea behind crate training is that your puppy like most animals doesn't want to soil where s/he has to eat and sleep and so if you don't bring your puppy to the toilet frequently then it will be all for nothing, your puppy wont learn to go to the toilet where you want it to go and s/he will become upset and confused if s/he has to go in its own den(crate).

So is crate training your puppy cruel?. Well the answer to that is to answer these

  1. Do you have some respect for your new puppy. If you do then crate training is an efficient way to housebreak him/her.
  2. Have you got time to supervise your puppy. Yes your puppy is in the crate and out of the way but unless you or someone else in the house can supervise then that would be cruel.

If the answers are yes then crate training is for you.Check out the youtube video below gives good information on size and what kind of crate to get.To get more informationon house training puppies click the link
