Is it part of human nature to resist change?

I have several theories on human nature and one of them is that humans are afraid of change. Change is scary, the fear of the unknown can destroy a person's life.

One example of a fear of change is death. Sometimes people don't necessarily think of this as a change but the state of living to death is a change. When a person dies it is difficult to believe that they are gone. Someone close to you dies and the change is so hard to grasp that it becomes fear. I am personally afraid of this right now. I have a fear that I could lose my beloved horse right now and if I do, my life won't be the same. And that's what scares me: that feeling of losing security.

Changing things is scary. The fear of the unknown is something that no one wants to face. It's easier to sit with your happy or even unhappy feelings at the moment than possible future emotions that we do not know. How do we know how we will react to something that hasn't happened yet? No matter how unhappy you might be in the here and now, you have no idea what you may feel in the future. It's a risk to take not to know what you will feel.

People fear change: it's part of the human condition.

You're right. We all fear the unknown. We're afraid we won't know what to do or how to act. The uncertainty can be maddening.

I've lost a child. There was no way I could have ever been prepared for it. It was, without a doubt, the toughest thing I've ever had to endure. But, I'm a stronger person today because of it. You do what you have to do. It's a survival instinct. (I have a few hubs about grief if you're interested.)

Did my life change? Sure. Do I miss him? Absolutely.

I hope your horse recovers fully. But, I assure you, you are capable of handling whatever happens. You are stronger than you give yourself credit for.

Hang in there, kiddo.

I'm very sorry for your loss. I am contemplating the possible loss of my horse who is my closest being and I can't imagine the pain I will feel. I know that he will die eventually but right now he is too young and I can't do anything to help him. If things don't change for the better than I don't want them to change.

I know it must be very tough for you and I do understand. I'm sending lots of love of good health your way. Show him all the love and understanding.
