Is it true that the native speakers of a language are the worst speakers of it?

To an extent, yes! Have you ever taken a second and third langause at school or college and noticed how easy it is to understand, and speak it as you continue studying it?

Take South Africa for example we have 13 different official langauges. This excluding the balance of the world residing here. We are compelled to take our mother tongue as a first language higher grade subject while studying other languages at a second language higher grade.

As you get further into your second languages you find it easier to speak. You enjoy the language more as well.

Your mother tongue is never usually spoken correctly or in alignment with what you learn. You develop slang talk and bad habits within the language. Certian groups they will even invent their own dictionaries.

I don't enjoy my mother tongue. I have many bad habits I have formulated over the years. They have, to date, never been corrected. And am sure that they never will either. I have English as my mother tongue, with Afrikaans and Dutch as second and third languages. I enjoy Afrikaans the most.
