UK followed US blindly in recent past

I apologize the British (UK) to choose a bad word lap dog in the title before starting the hub. However, this is not my word. The word is given in the ‘Request'. English is my second language and I can not find any synonym to these words, thus continuing with the same.

However, this is the fact. There are several reasons to say so. The formerly Mega power, the British, are crawling behind America, the USA.

It is clearly visible since the gulf war '91. Saddam Husein, the then President of Iraq committed a blonder attacking Kuwait. A joint force of 29 countries attacked Iraq in the leadership of the US to teach Iraq a lesson. UK joined hands with US and other nations in that war. Since then UK is behaving like a pet of America. In every international forum. it is with the US. United Kingdom support America in all matters right or wrong. It seems that UK have no independent foreign policy and accepted America, the US as their boss. The UK do not hesitate to do anything to impress their boss.

Is it not following US blindly?

Do you think UK a lap dog of USA?

Iraq War

Britain, European Union and America

When Europe started uniting, it was a threat to the political supremacy of the US. The EU (European Union) become united instead of rigorous efforts of the UK against the unification. The UK has not joined the EU so far. Only few countries are with the UK in Europe. Everyone else has joined the EU.

This is another proof of the UK following the US blindly.

The gulf war of 1991 had some legitimate issues. Iraq had attacked the sovereignty of neighboring country Kuwait. Large number of countries choose to join hands with America, the USA at that time. But war against Iraq in 2004 was not legitimate. Most of the companions left the war. President Bush, however, chosen to fight with few companions. The war was not even backed by the UNO. Despite this fact, the UK choose to be with the USA. The war was staged just to satisfy the ego of President Bush or for the sole benefit of the US.The United Kingdom also got some share of benefits.

Should Uk continue to follow US or have an independent policy?

Past memory still haunts

Recently a trade union in the UK is merged with its counterpart in the USA. UK also followed US blindly in G-20 summit in Washington.

It is heard that an opinion poll was conducted in the UK questioning whether it be merged in the USA as its 51th state.

President Obama is against Iraq war and has shown his desire to pull out American soldiers gradually from Iraq. It is likely that the UK will follow him again.

Are not these matters indicate that UK have no independent foreign policy? Valid reasons are there to think the UK a lap dog of the USA.

In fact, the UK has a large ego of its past Imperialism. Though years past, it can not yet come out of the sweet memories of those days when the sun did not set in the British Empire. They have memories but not power.  Where as America has emerged as the only super power in the world after decline of former Soviet Union.

Many of the  Americans have blood relations and lingual relationships with the British. Many of the modern Americans (Not talking of the Red Indians, the natives of the American continent) actually came from the UK. America was a colony of UK and many of the UK citizens were sent to America at that time. They were ancestors of many of the present day Americans. Though huge population from many other counties have been immigrated to the US, majority of the population have past relationship with  Britishers.

It is not surprising that the British find their dream through their own blood, the Americans. This is perhaps the psychological reason for the Britishers of following the US blindly without any legitimate issues or reasons behind it.

It is true that many people think the UK as lap dog of the US.

The Gulf War was in 1991.  I am not trying to be disrespectful, but I would suggest doing a little bit more research on this topic as some of your dates and facts are not accurate. Whereas many Americans have English ancestry, most Americans tend to be of mixed ancestry from nations all over the world. Native Americans is the proper term and "Red Indian" is slightly offensive. Native Americans are not red per sae, but this is another stereotype that has been handed down through the ages.

Another factual correction would be USA already has 50 states any addition would be 51st :-)

Sweetie Pie,

I do not think Red Indian is an offensive word. They are seen as a great freedom fighter, victim of brutal colonalialism.

The origin al modern Americans have their roots in UK. People from various parts of the globe came after them.

Jyoti,

I want to point out why these two facts are not accurate.  The preferred term for the indigenous peoples of North America is Native Americans, or simply referring to individuals by their tribes. Being part Native American I know this from having went to several pow wows where people from the tribes stated they preferred to be called by their tribal names.  However, Native Americans will suffice and is the most accurate term to use.

Not all modern Americans have roots from people in the UK. Today most Americans are from a mix of nationalities, as I can testify as being a person of mixed ancestry. I am Syrian, English, Native American, Dutch, French, Spaniard, Norwegian, French, and of Welsh origin, so as you can see not all of my ancestors were of UK origin. The original settlers of what became the thirteen colonies there were English, Norwegians, Dutch, French, and many other nationalities that cannot be listed here.  New Amsterdam was once a Dutch colony and one of my Norwegian ancestors moved there and married a woman of French origin.  It was not until the mid 1660's that the English began to challenge the Dutch claim to New Amsterdam.  Nevertheless, the Dutch had a thriving colony here in what became known as the original thirteen colonies, which illustrates the point that even part of the original thirteen colonies did not have its origins in the UK. There were enough Germans living here in the US by the time of the ratification of the Constitution that German was almost voted in to become the national language of the US, but lost by two votes.

Part of my degree is in American history, so I was only trying to help you when I pointed these things out, but I feel you are not open to my suggestions.

With that being said the US and UK do have a special relationship because of shared history, language, and cultural ties, but it is very audacious to claim all of modern America has roots in the UK.

Fighting for a cause is different and following blindly is different. The UK had started following America blindly and that is why it is called lapdog of the US.

Yes, the UK is the lap dog of the USA in a a handful of well-publicised ways. However I think you don't really know what you're on about. E.g. Britain is actually a founder member of the EU.
