Is the media happy for Obama or elated with their power to pick a President?
63I think you are implying that the media basically chose Obama - over McCain. Well, I think that would be belittling the democratic process. The people chose Obama, didn't they? I know there are people who believe that the media gave Obama preferential treatment vis-a-vis McCain. There have been insinuations that Obama was asked far fewer tough questions and that he was scrutinized less by the media. Well - perhaps!! My own impression is that the media did get carried away by the Obama wave - just as everyone else was. Ideally, it would have been great if both the candidates were treated equally by the media.
The media does hold great power in swaying public opinion and is vital in furthering the chances of candidates. In that respect, perhaps the media did pick President (elect) Obama. Although, it would be fallacious to say that Obama won because of the media. The media did play a part (perhaps a big part - that is open to conjecture), but Obama won because his magic on the people worked. He had a certain "thing" about him that appealed to the people. One can't quite put a finger on what that "thing" is, but it worked and so we have President Obama.
On the question of whether the media is happy for Obama, well I'd think they are happy - just as everyone else is. But, I think this might just be a short honeymoon between the media and Obama. It would be fascinating to watch whether the media is just as enamored with Obama as his presidency winds down.

Clinton was still better than the liar who replaced him. Sure he lied about his personal life, but he didn't lie about why we went to war, when there were no WMD's. Check out my hub, Bush legacy if you want the whole story.
With regard to the press, they tried to bury Clinton and he had positive approval ratings. Then Fox and even the other networks, (Russert, etc), gushed all over Bush until the internet folks started exposing him as a liar in his little war for oil. It was a war BTW that the neocons wanted prior to his election, and the plan was on the table before 9/11. That is fact.
So, the media can brainwash some, but not completely. People have, and must have multiple sources for the news.
hi Shil1978, i must say the media did pick him, and made sure that he got it, no matter what McCain or Palin did or said they were raked across the coals, and if Obummer said anything no mater what it was he was correct in every way. i listened to both sides and did not want either of the selection. but when Obummer said "The United States of America is The Greatest Nation in The World, HELP ME CHANGE IT" that changed my decision on who to vote against, not for. i kept waiting to hear someone say something about that comment but it was swept under the media rug and was never repeated, my wife was shocked and said what did he just say? change it, change it to what?
Roger, while I can understand the people getting swayed by the Obama "magic," I did not expect the media to be swayed. The thing that disturbed me the most was the media's inability to really press Obama on issues. They seemed to do that for McCain and Palin, but they really treated Obama with kid gloves. That's really something to worry about. I hope at least now they hold him accountable.
