What is Mind over Matter?

Mind over Matter, or Psychokinesis, is now termed MMI (Mind-Matter Interaction). MMI is the study of consciousness affecting the material world.

Why is it important?

Mind-Matter Interaction is important because it offers a new model of consciousness that is radically different from the dualist model of mind and matter that science still upholds today. It implies that we cannot separate our minds from the world, and our consciousness may have the ability to affect matter at the subatomic level.

What research has been done into the subject of Mind over Matter?

Mind over Matter research, or psychokinesis as it is commonly known, has recently begun to be tested through the use of Random Number Generators, or Random Event Generators (RNG's/REG's). These are physical machines that generate a series of random numbers, usually 0's and 1's. The sequence of these events are as random as possible because the machines are based on quantum radioactive decay.

In research studies, participants attempt to influence the device either consciously or subsconsciously and the amount that the machine deviates from randomness is the measure of mind-matter interaction. Anything significantly beyond chance expectation is explored as a possible instance of MMI. The main body of research in this field has been carried out by Schmidt (1987), Jahn and Dunne (1987), and Roger Nelson of the PEAR lab (Princeton Engineering Anomalies Research).

There is a large scale mind-matter interaction research project that has been running for over 10 years called the Global Consciousness Project, which is run by Roger Nelson at the PEAR lab. A series of RNGs are distributed throughout the world and patterns in global consciousness have been directly correlated with significant devisations in the RNGs (deviating away from chance). During times of focused global thought, these RNG's have measured a significant recording. The 9/11 attacks, the death of Princess Diana, and the Pope's funeral all registered on the output of the Global Consciousness RNG's.

How is mind over matter demonstrated?

Mind over Matter can be demonstrated in various ways- either over the physical body or over external objects themselves. What seems to be important from the literature is either conscious or subsconscious awareness or attention on the outcome.

Can you practise mind over matter?

There are now several ways in which you can attempt to experience MMI for yourself. There are many online experiments, including a retropsychokinesis experiment (which is the supposed ability to affect the quantum RNG output after it has been recorded). New consciousness technologies researchers Psyleron have also developed their own MMI products, including the mind lamp and the service synctxt, both of which use quantum RNG's which you can attempt to influence with your mind.
