Is there hard evidence that ghosts exist?

Show me the evidence, if any, that ghosts do exist and I would be happy to believe in ghosts. As of now, neither have I seen a ghost personally nor have I heard of anyone (known to me) say that they've seen ghosts. So, I wonder about those who claim to have seen ghosts. Have they indeed seen ghosts or did they imagine seeing ghosts, or did they just misinterpret their surroundings and confuse some natural phenomena with ghosts. My gut feeling is that they must have. I don't know how one can explain ghosts either scientifically or in any other way.

I believe the belief in ghosts stems from the complex workings of the brain. The brain is an organ we've not yet understood fully. We do know though that our brains sometimes play tricks on us. We do know that our brain sometimes interprets things the way it sees it. I just see ghosts as a consequence of our not understanding just how how brain interprets things in certain situations.

Even otherwise, I find it quite difficult to believe some of the ghost stories I come across. For example, some people claim to hear footsteps of the ghosts while others say they've seen ghosts that float and pass through walls. Now, don't the two versions contradict each other?

I don't question the people who claim to have seen ghosts. Maybe they've seen something - the question is what? Could it be that perhaps they didn't quite understand what they saw or that they misinterpreted what they saw?

Thanks for answering my request, my theory is:

The hard evidence that ghosts don't exist comes in the form that there is no hard evidence that they do exist.
