Las Islas Filipinas was the name of the Philippine Islands during the Spanish times. The name was after King Philip of Spain. It became a commonwealth of the United States of America after the Spanish-American War. After gaining its independence from the U.S., it became known officially as The Republic of the Philippines. It is referred to as Philippines, for simplicity.
Las Islas Filipinas or the Philippines is a southeast asian country near Malaysia that is composed of more than seven thousand island. The islands are grouped into three: Luzon Islands, the northern part; Visayas Islands, the central portion; and Mindanao Islands, located on the south.
