It All Started With Pong
60Forget the ENIAC (Electronic Numeric Integrated Computer) introduced in 1946 or the UNIVAC (Universal Automatic Computer) introduced in 1951 or even the IBM PC introduced in 1981, it was the Atari Inc. Pong sports games introduced in 1972 that started the console interest for me.
The earliest introduction to computing and gaming that I can remember is trying to figure out how to install the Atari computer to my television. After some time playing around I got it hooked up and began using it. I enjoyed the Atari, the 2 analog paddles, monaural sound and black/white video when it was introduced. Most of all I enjoyed beating my brother.
In today's standards, the Atari cannot even be compared but it was the first instance of console gaming that I was involved in and will always remember it.
List in order of my preference are the game consoles I enjoy the most.
Wii
Ahhh yes the Wii... I have really enjoyed playing the Wii and all the games (Fit, Yard games 1 & 2) but then came the game that I have enjoyed the most (Shaun White Snowboarding). Just the fact that it was a Snowboarding game had me hooked but to be able to get exercise and play video games at the same time was like combing pizza and beer.
Xbox
Along with the Xbox came an awesome snowboarding game called Amped. Amped was so much fun that, when I completed it, I purchased Amped 2 then Leisure Suite Larry MCL. Comparing Amped and LSL is tough and I cannot say I enjoyed one more than the other.
PC
Instead of playing all the fighting games or Amped 3 on the Xbox 360, I switched to the PC and began playing some really cool games on that platform. There was Siberia 1 and 2, Tron, Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines and Bloodrayne 1 and 2. From this platform I enoyed playing Bloodlines the most.
Nintendo 64
Gaming, for me, really became popular when the Nintendo 64 reached the US market. That is when I spent countless hours with my friends Mario and Luigi. After the Mario and Zelda games, the Xbox arrived and it seemed as though I was not going to give up console gaming anytime soon.
Xbox 360
Then Microsoft had to introduce the Xbox 360 with Amped 3. I actually did not get heavily involved with the Xbox 360 (we left that to our son) and therefore did not play Amped 3 immediately. Amped 3 was ok but I feldt it did not have the depth that the first two version had.
