Death is one of the few certainties that we can count on.  Now matter how you may try to avoid it, eventually it catches up to us all.  When I was growing up and the news would report that a celebrity had died, my mother would always say, "Celebrity deaths always come in three's".  I never paid much attention to it or gave it very much thought.  But maybe she was right.  David Carradine, Ed McMahon, and now Farrah Fawcett.

  • David Carradine died 6/4/2009 in a Thailand hotel room closet.  He was found tied up and it has been rumored that his hands were bound behind his back and also around his genitals.  There are a lot of rumors and speculations about the 72 year old actors death.  Carradine was in Thailand working on a new movie.
  • Ed McMahon died 6/23/2009.  He was hospitalized with pnemonia back in Feb 09 and remained in critical care.  McMahon was remembered as long time side kick to Johnny Carson on the tonight show.  He was also known for hosting Star Search and being on the Publisher's Clearinghouse commercials.
  • Farah Fawcett died 6/25/2009 from a long time battle from Anal Cancer.  Her long time companion of 17-years, Ryan O'Neal recently asked her to marry him.  Fawcett was one of the original Charlie's Angels, however she left the show to pursue a movie career after the first season.

2009 has seen several Celebrity deaths.  Here is a list of them:

  • Rajeev Motwani died 6/5/09 - Stanford Professor who was a mentor to Google Co-Founders.  Cause of death, drowning.
  • Wayman Tisdale died 5/19/09 - Former Basketball Player cause of death is unknown although he was taken to the hospital for poor breathing.
  • Robert Anthony Burton II aka Dolla died 5-1809.  The rapper was shot.
  • Chuck Daley, a NBA Basketball Coach died 5-9-09 of pancreatic cancer.
  • Mickey Carrol, actor who was the last surviving munchkin from the film the Wizard of Oz died 5-7-09 and the cause of death is unknown.
  • Sam Cohn - talent agent died 5-6-09 of a short illness.
  • Ean Evans - Bassist for Lynard Skynard died 5-6-09 from cancer.
  • Dom Deluise - actor/director died 5-4-09, the cause is unknown at this time.
  • Adam Cook - brother to American Idol winner David Cook died 5-3-09 from a brain tumor.
  • Jack Kemp - U.S. Congressman died 5-2-09 from cancer.
  • Vernon King - nephew of Dr. Martin Luther King died 5-2-09 and the cause is unknown.
  • Danny Gans - singer, comedian, and impressionist died 5-1-09 unexpectedly in his home.
  • Buddy Rose - wrestler died 4-28-09, the exact cause is unknown but he suffered from complications from blood sugar issues and diabetes.
  • Greg Page former boxer died 4-27-09 from complications from a brain injury.
  • Bea Arthur - actress died 4-25-09 she suffered from cancer, the exact cause is undetermined.

There are quite a few more as you can quite imagine.  So many people passed in such a short amount of time it seems.

Never Alone

by Rodney BelcherI feel you in the morning
When at first I awake
Your thought is with me
With each decision I make

You'd been around forever
Since the first breath I took
Now I have to go on alone
But for love, I need not look

Cause by what you bestowed
In our short time together
Will last in my heart
Forever and ever

Although you've left
And now walk above
I'm never alone
I'm wrapped in your love

Enjoy now your long waited reward
Feel peace that your love continues on
What was taught to me, will be taught to mine
Cause you live on in me even after you've gone

When it comes to goodbyes, 2009 was catastrophic. So before we bid adios to the old man with the scythe and welcome the new kid with his year to grow, let’s retrieve the rest of the leftover New Year’s Eve bubbly from the back shelf of the fridge and drink one last toast to the friends we left behind in the year that just ended. Last year’s celebrity departures ran the gamut, from 101-year-old...

  • Michael Jackson wasn't the only star lost in '09Tallahassee Democrat4 days ago

You may not have heard. Michael Jackson, 50, died in 2009. Same day as Farrah Fawcett, 62.

If death were like any other pop culture trend or event, we would be declaring 2009 a great year, a banner year for the fallen famous....

It is a shame that so many good people have gone in such a short period of time. I don't think I am interested in reading about a dead pool.

Hi KCC - Thanks for the comment. It is so sad.

Goldentoad, I didn't mean to offend you, to each his own. BUT, a dead pool is just something that's a little to creepy to me.

very interesting post. 2009 certainly has seen the passing of a lot of celebs! makes us realise that absolutely no one is invincable. When its time to go... it's time. We should make the very most of the time we have and be sure to tell those who we love and care for, just how much they mean to us!

Very well said Grundge Hedgehog! It is true, it's hard not to take your loved one's for granted and to ignore death. Sure put's it in perspective when it's all over the news like wildfire!
