So deer season starts Saturday and lasts until the following Sunday in my part of the USA. I plan on hunting a little on both weekends as I work during the week.

I live out in the country and we have a non working farm with lots of wildlife and woods. I don't intend on shooting a doe as they are always too easy. I figure if I see a big buck I will try to get it and do a european mount. A european mount is where you let everything rot from the skull and you are left with a skull and antlers. Should make for an interesting experiment if I can keep animals away from it.

It should be a pretty cold weekend, so I will make sure to get my warm coveralls out. I will also get a nice sock hat and some new neoprene gloves that I got recently. Neoprene gloves are basically like a rubber and these are scuba diving gloves, which will make your hands sweat.

I will at least go out and make sure nobody is trespassing on our property and if I run into that big buck then so be it.

It is also smart to bring plenty of snacks when deer hunting. I will probably go get some jerky here shortly, as well as something to drink. My favorite times to hunt are early in the morning and then the evening right up till dark.

If I get a deer, I will most likely get it processed into sticks and summer sausage. I feel deer meat tastes the best in this form, although I am sure other folks can prepare it pretty good in other ways. I just know it will be enjoyed more in that form.

In years past I would find people to hunt with, but apparently this year I will be doing it solo. I am tempted to go to my campsite that I made with a nice fire pit. That way I can warm up in between watching a corner of a large field that we have. I have always enjoyed playing with fire anyway. But then again my dad seems to think the smoke would scare off the deer, but I am not so sure.

So tonight I will be getting out all my stuff and hunter orange. Will probably be out in the woods around daylight and maybe I will see something. I do see a lot of does around there, but not so many bucks. I have always found that being out in the woods can be very spiritual.

Anyone else around here hunt?
