“It’s the truth I just made it up.”

It is a bit of a strange title for a hub page I know however it is a concept that I would like you to consider especially if you desire to make profound deep personal changes in your life. “It’s the truth I just made it up.”

This is something that an old mentor used to say to me a long time ago, back then it confused me yet he always told me that “one day you will understand” I have spent the last twenty years or so as a therapist and studied with some of the greats and down the years I have seen thousands of people for consultations and sessions and nearly all of them suffer from the problem of pretending something is real and the behaving as if what they have made up is true in their worlds, yet most is not.

If you have looked through my other hubs you will know the story of making a cup of tea. If not let me ask you to play. Has there ever been a time in your life when you went in to your kitchen to make a cup of tea and while there re-ran an argument you had with someone?

There is a very good chance that you have done this or imagined something else like it, maybe your partner being unfaithful or something else that frightened or worried you, but back to the the game.

When you did this you got angry and the feelings were real if like most people you re-ran the argument you got angrier. If you did this a few times you could really work yourself up in to a state. If we had a secret video camera recording all we would see you alone in the kitchen, no one else was with you.

Yet in your mind you may have seen the person you argued with , maybe even could even hear there voice and what they said to you. Thats why you got angry. Yet no one was there.

You made something up in your mind and believed it as real. Interacting with a self hypnotic fantasy that made you angry. Very cool stuff, most people scare themselves and create bad feelings in their bodies by running this sort of stuff fears, anxieties, worry not to mention stress,

All created by you.

So why does all this happen?

For a few reasons and I will keep it very simple.

You do not have a reality checker in your mind unless you install it, so that what you say to your self you believe. Unless you meet a neuro linguistic programmer or a good hypnotist and they call on your mental playground.

You have been raised by people who did the same stuff and did not know any different. We have all been condition since birth with parental and social conditioning that may have been valid at the time , yet as adults will no longer serve us. Maybe it’s time to change some of yours.

Your subconscious control mind and this part of you controls all your habits, behaviors and conditioning and is the same mind that controlled a dinosaurs brain. It takes over. You sort of go in to a stress response and parts of your brain shut down thats why when stressed you say and do dumb things, get over emotional can’t think straight and your I.Q drops.

Your subconscious control mind runs by a different set of rules.

Can’t tell the difference between what is real and what you imagine. Other wise how could you argue with someone who is not there.

Has no concept of time. Some people feel guilt over the past and worry about the future. Yet they have no T.A.R.D.I.S to use.

Likes to pattern and stay in comfort zones, even if unpleasant. This allows us to have some control as to what we know will be. It also attempts to keep us where we are. If you have ever attempted to stop smoking and found it difficult you will know this one.

Is  logical, totally yet to our conscious mind it appears as irrational. How often have you known someone say “ I know I should but” A phobic who is afraid of a tiny, tiny, weeny spider no bigger than the nail on their little finger.

All seams irrational and illogical yet to the subconscious control mind it all makes sense.

It also has the cognitive interface of a child. This is where we get all the notions of an inner kid from. Our early conditioning and emotional responses still running, thankfully you can upgrade this to a teenager

So you can see that we all have very valid reasons for how and why we make things up in our heads and pretend what we have done is real. It’s not the most productive way to run your life, thankfully there is a lot that we can do to evolve the interface and we techniques that we can learn and master so that we can become aware of the difference between what is really happening and what we are pretending is going on.

The recordings below the big four are a very good place to start.
