I always remember growing up when the 2000 years were going to be the years of the future. The Back to the Future always gave me hope! Not about time travel but just the hover board alone would have been a cool invention to follow y2k. Now it's 2009 and the best we have are hybrid cars that run of gas and electricity!! So it's not a hovering car or a hover board but the 'Terrafugia Transition' developed by former NASA engineers is the closest thing I've seen that fly's as well as it drives. It transforms from two-seater car into a plane in 15-seconds. The wings fold up and everything is contained in the one vehicle. It runs on unleaded fuel and supposedly can fly for 500 miles going about 115mph on one tank of gas. It's suppose to hit the showrooms in a little more than a year. For a plane, it's reasonably priced but for a car it's definitely high end. About $200,000 is going to be the retail price. Apparently the creators already have about 40 orders for them with the high price. It makes sense if you are going to buy a small airplane. Why not pay the same price for one that transforms into a car!! The only problem I can see with the idea is that if I were to be able to buy one of these plane-cars I would want to take off as soon as I saw traffic ahead on the freeway. How great would that be?? Driving home after work on a busy Los Angeles freeway and you just put the wings down and take off over everybody and start cruising at 115mph over the gridlock! Too bad the only state you can take off from a road is Alaska!!!
