It's just a movie, calm down

Apparently there's a new movie coming out, "The Back-Up Plan", featuring Jennifer Lopez and Alex O'Loughlin. It's going to be a romantic comedy where J Lo plays a young woman getting artificial insemination. She has a baby because she's feeling maternal. I'm not sure if she explores other areas in which she could express her maternal instinct without having a baby, but that would be my first thing to do before I opt for an expensive procedure.

The premise of this movie brings up a lot of questions and issues. I understand the desire to have your own child, but why not adopt? There are millions of children out there desperate for a home.

There are many people who think artificial insemination is an abomination, where others think it's a gift from science. I'm a little on the fence but am leaning more toward gift. The more and more we solve our medical issues, the more we can go on to solve bigger and greater medical issues.

Perhaps the women who have a normal uterus and pathways should possibly have a longer wait, but there isn't any reason why they shouldn't have the opportunity.

Others might argue the over-population issue which is why I believe in adoption. However, if we really want to solve the over-population dilemma, then we should try China's approach (and how's that working out?). Those of you who don't know, China only allows you to have two children per household. I'm not sure how they regulate this without sterilizing everyone. So you either have the right to choose to over-populate or you have the right to two children and that's it.

I'm curious to see what you think, take the poll at the end or leave a comment in the comment box.

To Inseminate or Not to Inseminate

Do we continue to over-populate by giving people even more choices to pro-create or do we impliment harsh application processes in order to stop increased population?

  • I want more babies! Inseminate me now.
  • I'd rather adopt.
  • I'd rather have my own baby, but I'll wait til I'm ready.
  • I'd rather wait til I have a reliable partner and a stable home.
  • Let's do it China's way!
