John the Baptist was the son of Zachary and his wife Elizabeth a relative of Mary Jesus mother and was born six months before Jesus ,John was sent from God he came to bare witness the light John was to announce the coming of Jesus John1;23 He said, I am the voice of one crying in the wilderness, Make straight the way of the Lord, as said the prophet Esaias. Matthew3;3 For this is he that was spoken of by the prophet Esaias, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight.

John wore clothing made of camel's hair and a leathern girdle and ate locusts and wild honey, and Who baptized people in the river Jordan. John was known as the Baptist because he called on his followers to go through a ceremony of baptism to demonstrate their repentance for their sins It was after being baptized by John that Jesus was led to the wilderness to be tempted by the devil John was executed by the ruler King Herod Matthew 14;10 And he sent, and beheaded John in the prison.Soon after the baptism of Jesus John was put in prison by King Herod. John who was very upset because King Herod had married his brother Philip wife Herodias and Philip who was still alive Herodias wanted Herod to kill John but he wouldn't he considered him to be a prophet and was afraid of the people instead he put him in prisonThen on Herod birthday he made a promise to the daughter of Herodias called Salome while she came in and dance for him and he said to her ask me whatever you wish and it will be given to you and she went and ask her mother Herodias what would she ask for and she said the head of John The Baptist on a platter and he didn't want to break his promise so he order his soldiers to do just that Herod gave it to Salome and she gave it to her mother
