Jack Welch's Winning
60
As the former CEO of General Electric, Jack Welch describes in this book the way to run a successful international business in a brief way. Due to his long experience in GE (from 1982 to 2001), there's no doubt that he is one of that few ones who really can talk about management without having to paraphrase other people.
This book won't take so much of your time to read, but will give you many new ideas that maybe you wouldn't find in text books about the theme. Besides, it's not only about management and business; you can find here many good tips for improving your personal life and apply to other areas. I liked so much that of "Have a positive attitude and spread it around, never let yourself be a victim, and for goodness' sake - have fun". As its title points out, it a book about winning.
The first part is called "Underneath it all" and it's about mission and values, differentiation, candor, and voice and dignity.
The second one, "Your company", taps some deep issues of management. It's really interesting because you'll see many examples of real life and not too much theory, exactly what the today's business man looks for.
The third part, "Your competition", is about strategy, budgeting, organic growth, six sigma, and mergers and acquisitions.
Caring for your career, on the fourth part, Welch gives us some advices you should take in order to climb positions in the company where you work.
Finally, "Tying up loose ends", is a place where you'll find answers for the questions many people ask Jack (even such ones as "How is your golf game?").
