Airsoft has seen some incredible advances in technology and realism over the past several years. One such innovation is the James Boom Airsoft Hand Grenade. Manufactured by Maple Leaf and branded by companies like SRC and VFC, this is a must have piece of equipment (SEE VIDEO BELOW).
Despite the lame name, the James Boom BB Grenade is designed after the flash/bang MKIII A2 style hand grenade, the James Boom Airsoft Grenade looks awesome! At 5.25” tall and 9 ounces unloaded, it fits perfectly in any grenade or magazine utility pouch. It is a reusable green gas powered device that holds approximately 72 BB's. The nice thing about this is that you can use the cheap .12 gram BB's or even high grade airsoft ammunition that has already been shot from a gun. This gives you a way to get double usage from your expensive ammunition. In our lab tests, no matter what type of BB was used, results were always impressive. We even used Blammo Kill Marker BBs to show what gets hit upon detonation. That is an idea we will take to the field, as it gives any type of airsoft grenade or mine additional value and effectiveness.
Maple Leaf added some great features to this product that add a lot of realism. One great feature is the adjustable timer that allows you to set how long it will take to detonate after pulling the pin and releasing the handle. Adjustment time ranges from 1 second to 1 hour. The grenade also produces a hissing sound prior to exploding which adds to the realism of a battle situation. At first we thought this would impact the amount of gas in the chamber on longer delays, but the James Boom Grenade does a good job managing gas release resulting in the same velocity on 1 second or 1 hour delay. Additionally, they maintained the pull pin and throw function of a real grenade. Just make sure you don’t lose the pin or handle as you’ll need those for reuse. Finally, the gas discharge makes a cool “Bang” sound adding additional realism.
When discharged, the BB's leave the device at a velocity of 250-350 FPS. The lighter the projectile the faster it will go! At those velocities weeds and grass will not be a problem. The only downside based on the shape, about1/3 of the BBs will shoot into the ground as it usually lands on its side when thrown. Because it does not shoot out of the top or bottom, the pattern is more of an Arc. It takes a little skill to throw to make sure the “arc” hits your target, Our best results were using a short duration timer setting to ensure an airburst, You can also use James Boom Airsoft Grenade with a trip wire and short fuse setting for a great booby trap.
The construction on this unit is solid. It features a durable rubber BB matrix, metal internals, metal valves, and a nylon plastic cover that you must remove before use in battle to protect the BB Matrix. The unit is easy to disassemble for repairs and cleaning.
If you want to add more fun and realism and take your air soft battles to the next level then you really should check out the new James Boom MKIII airsoft A2 Airsoft hand grenade. The James Boom Airsoft Grenade is available at:

What do you think about Airsoft Grenades?
Awesome article! The Joker is going to love this...
Eye Protection is a must when using any Airsoft, paintball, or real firearm. You only get two eyes, when their gone hitting your target is pretty darn difficult.
Good Point!
Make sure you practice with these so that you get the timing down. Check with your airsoft field before using. You may want to paint some of it blaze orange so you can find it later. Can these be filled with powder? The reason I ask is that the first time a bb grenade goes off on some people they don't know how to react. If they are covered in red powder however, they must realize they can not continue. Madbull has an anti personnel mine like that. It is very cool to watch someone hit a trip wire or step on a mine with powder. Are these American made or from HK? Great read bro.
The Directions indicate you can use with Baby powder for a smoke effect and a pleasant smelling opponent. We did a test with the Blammo Kill Marker BBs and it left, tell tale marks of impact. This was the best set up, as in real combat you sometimes escape the shrapnel blast from a grenade depending on your distance or evasive manuever. Kill Marker BBs adds that realism back in.
Made in Taiwan.
