Japanese names are often written in kanji, which are Chinese characters in Japanese pronunciation.

The kanji for a name may have a variety of possible Japanese pronunciations, but ancestors  might use hiragana or katakana when giving a birth name to their baby child. Names written in hiragana or katakana don't really bear a meaning, in contrast to given names written in kanji.

Who Are You?--A Poem

Who are you?

Do you know?

You should not look into the sun

for fear of harming your eyes.

Just watch the light as reflects off the river

sparkling and lively.

So too you should not gaze too closely into yourself

Just look at how you affect the world instead.

You are the light

Your soul is the sun.

Look at your deeds and there you will see yourself.
